A police officer shot a 16-year-old boy when he refused to drop the broomstick he was holding in Salt Lake City last night.
The officer was responding to an unrelated call in the Utah capital at 8.15pm when his team spotted two teenagers arguing with a man, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
Surrounding them, police allegedly told the boy to drop what he was holding - part of a broomstick. When he did not, 'shots were fired'. The boy was hit in the chest and the stomach.

I guess it depends on the situation, but I wonder why a beanbag shotgun wasn't deployed. Maybe some LEO can weigh in on this.
Was the boy a veteran? Did he display the movements of the drill?
Or, did the cop just shoot because he knows damn well he'll get away with it?
but SLC?
Not that it matters, but the citizens I’m seeing are not your average Black Americans, they appear to be Somalians. This apparent ignorance of how to react to our policemen may be used as a rationale on why the boy did not obey the cop’s order. Bad idea.
Well, I can only speak for myself. But, if some thug went after me with a broomstick, I wouldn’t hesitate to drill him as many times as it takes to ensure he is no longer a threat to me.
It wasn’t a broom and it wasn’t the brush. Sounds like a stick for a broom.
Wack-A-Mole!
Either Hillary or Bernie will be trying to arrange a public press conference/ brunch with the boy’s family, so as to boost their minority showing on Super Tuesday.
Why no head shot?
Nowhere in any story does it say he went after the cop.
i just want to know if the police made it home safely to their families. that’s the only thing important about the story.

go back to somalia and see what they do there to ya. Just leave already.
It looks like the mormons importing of somali mooslims aint lookins so swell now.
Heaven and earth position in Double Sinawali ... kinda ... The heaven bastone should be by his ear and the earth bastone should be tucked in closer ... unless he is in motion.
I guess the officer didn’t really want to ‘hurt’ the boy, just neutralize him as a threat. A head shot would have ‘killed him dead’.
Oh ... and to much punyo ... should be two hands width
I know that. Then again, you and I weren't there. Isn't it interesting how we come to our own conclusions based on news stories that are at times notoriously prone to inaccuracy? It's very likely there is more to the story.
Point is, the "boy" with a stick would likely be just as shot up if his victim was armed. Do evil, suffer the consequences.
We need some “common sense” assault broomstick control.
“./.a broomstick? Really?”
I once knocked a fellow soldier flat on his arse with a broomstick. I’m a lot older, and less active now, but would you care to stand up to me if I came at you with a broomstick?
A good dose of beating would be in order, a beating that he would remember. But shooting is a little excessive IMO. But then what do I know, I wasn’t there.
