Millennials aren't eating cereal because it's too much work

Why aren't millennials eating cereal? Apparently, it's just too much work.

Almost 40% of millennials surveyed by Mintel said that cereal was an inconvenient breakfast choice, because they have to clean up after eating it, reports the New York Times.

Instead, younger consumers are turning to convenient options with minimal cleanup that can be eaten on the go, from yogurt to fast-food breakfast sandwiches.

Cereal sales dropped 5% from 2009 to 2014, despite the fact that more Americans are eating breakfast than ever before. ...

I have a cousin that “dunks” his cookies in water from the tap instead of milk. I tried it. It ain’t awesome either.

I’m pretty sure milk is magical. that is the only explanation.

Just this morning, over a bowl of gluten free cheerio type cereal, I reminisced about all the reading I did as a kid

I read every single word on every box set before me .... corn flakes, usually

And I cut out the masks and once, someone had printed on the cardboard, a 45 phonograph record I cut out and it actually played

I don't remember what it was ....

But a lot of my reading comprehension is courtesy of Battle Creek Michigan ... and Iowa and Kellogg's and ...

Eegad, I bet your range is a nightmare. I love bacon as much as the next person, but it is a PITA to cook & clean up after, even using foil as a spatter screen. In an ideal world, frying stuff should be done outside, imho.

(I used to have these great instructions for doing bacon on a cookie sheet in the oven, but it went with my hard drive before I ever had a chance to try it. If anyone knows how to do this, could you post it please?)

"I read every single word on every box set before me .... corn flakes, usually."

Perhaps you've stumbled on the explanation for the declining sales. The cereal boxes exceed the average millennial reading grade level.

I've been a cereal fanatic ever since ....the summer of love.

Ever read The Road to Wellville, by T.C. Boyle? Wickedly funny. (I didn't see the movie, but I'd bet it wasn't nearly as good). Tells the story J.H. Kellogg and the methods employed at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. I'm sure your grandparents had some great stories.

Back bacon, what they mostly eat in the British Isles, has a lot less fat than bacon made from pork bellies. Their pork belly bacon is generally called “streaky bacon”.

Walk from the cupboard, to the refrigerator, to the silverware drawer. Now who has THAT kind of abundant time available to them?!

Ahh, but it's not the time: it's that they'd have to put down their smartphones. And studies have shown that a millennial deprived of a smart phone for more than 11 seconds is liable to fatal cerebral fibrillation: their brains have become atrophied through lack of use.

I grew up around cereals, both sets of grandparents, worked in Battle Creek, my mother's side for Post, and my dad's for Kellogg's.

Good Lord! how did they raise their children? It'd be like a Deepwater Baptist marrying a Serbian Orthodox...

For most microwaves it works out to 1 minute and 10 seconds per slice...
