NEW YORK — The President of New York's Sergeants Benevolent Association says he supports the decision of Miami's police union to boycott Beyonce's Formation tour concert scheduled in April.
Ed Mullins is so incensed over the Grammy winner's black power performance at the Super Bowl, he's thinking of encouraging a similar security boycott for her concert at Citi Field in June.
Performing music from her new single "Formation," Beyonce and her backup dancers wore outfits modeled after the militant Black Panthers group of years past, and offered support of the current Black Lives Matter movement.
Many were outraged by the performance they considered was more of a political statement. The provocative performance was condemned by police because it promoted the Black Liberation Army who were responsible for the 1981 shooting of police officers Richard Rainey and John Scarangella. Scarangella was killed and Rainey, who was wounded, died recently.
The Miami police union claims Beyonce is using her music to divide Americans and the message shows she doesn't support law enforcement.
SBA President Mullins tells PIX 11 News, "Law enforcement across the country has to make a statement that we're not bad guys and she's got to stop portraying us as bad guys."

Terrible singer married to an ugly (not my words) guy who can’t sing. They really gamed the system, fooled a lot of people and got rich. Now they thumb their nose at everyone because they feel entitled.

Boycott? Where they thinking of going beforehand? She does Tina Turners act only with lame songs, why would ANYBODY have any interest seeing this ditz?
It’s not about the officers protesting. It’s about the fact that off duty police officers will refuse to work private security detals for her concert. It’s a little known fact that a lot of large venues in cities depend on off duty cops to fill the ranks of their event security. No security, the insurance company refuses to insure the concert

Boycott means the police will not provide security, and I don't think they have the right to do this just because they are angry at the performer.
Hope there’s no police presence at all at the concert. Shove it up Beyoncé and deBlasio’s ..... And, riots break out. Oh, alright, I was joshing about the riots.

Do police unions get to pick and choose what police officers will work on? Or are police details at concerts some sort of optional thing?
