My daughter will be driving to Gainesville from Jacksonville next week, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the speed trap in Waldo is any better. It has been a number of years since I've made that drive myself. I know there was some talk about disbanding the police department a few years ago. Does anyone know if that has made a difference?
The Waldo PD was disbanded mainly because of the Speed trap mess.
However there is still plenty of speed zones that are watched like a hawk.
Just went through there mid January on my way from NC to Gainesville.
That drive requires patience, undivided attention, light foot. Speed zones galore.
I-10 to I-75 best bet.
Tell her to be careful or do as I did on the way back to Jax and beyond.
Took I-75 to I-10 and zoom. Farther but trouble free and about the same time..
Ahh, finally someone local who understands what I was getting at! The worst part is that for someone not familiar with when the speed limit does drop, like my daughter, it would be a surprise to be pulled over when you think you are driving the correct speed limit.
That may be a good idea. If it takes the same amount of time, it may be better for her to stay away from the area completely. Thank you.
BTW. If she is using I-10 to I-75 and is using a Garmin, DO NOT take the ‘shortcut’ through Live Oak as it wants to route you.
Stop light EVERY block. Catch one and you catch them all.
Don’t ask me how I know.:(
Even if they have, you should tell her to ease up on the gas when traveling through redneck areas. There’s still the sheriff, and the state patrol.
Ok, thanks! ;)
Stay out of the FL panhandle. The speed trap in Milton is terrible!
Drive 5mph below the limit in Waldo and stay away from Lawtey altogether.
She doesn’t have a lead foot, but speed traps like Waldo, that never mattered. If you can’t see the speed limit change signs, you can’t decrease your speed. That’s what makes them a speed trap, the poor signage. If it is posted well, then she’ll have time to make adjustments.
Is Lawtey a speed trap also? I don’t remember that one growing up.
Just watch your speed in Tifton, Georgia!
Huge speed trap area.
And they use some method there (from a parked patrol car) that does not set off my Escort laser/radar detector.
Not sure the method but both wife and I have been ticketed there for 10 over with no Escort alert. And they came down the on-ramp to do it both times. It wasn’t a pace or aircraft.
I drive down 301 every year, and, while those towns are speed traps, I have never been caught speeding there,
Why? Because I obey the law.
There is no reason to have to pay the ‘stupid tax’ or get caught in a ‘speed trap’. Just do what the signs say.
Ludowici, GA is another place to avoid if you want to break the law. They’re a trap too.
“displaced Southerners”
Come home my friend, we need all of us back that we can get.
Why would you post such a question here?
This isnt AAA’s website.
For sure. It’s saved my rear end a few times!
I like waze too!
When God sees fit, He will provide the way. I asked a few years ago to be closer to my Mama to help out the family. He had a sense of humor by providing a new job that had us move to Indy. It’s a half hour closer by car, so I decided I needed to be more specific in my prayers!
VASCAR, probably. Laser is also possible, if they aim carefully. The beam pretty much has to hit the detector element straight on to register (and by then it’s too late anyway).
It’s a vanity thread on chat, and I know there are plenty of FReepers who might be able to know more closely than I do. I hope it’s not ruining your day.
THis is the view going into Waldo from the north:
(ok actually it’s the google view leaving town going north)
And
going north into Waldo from the South:
VERY well marked that the speed is going down.
Where they get you is that they speed limit slows quickly once your in town.
