It is always better to stay away from the Gainesville area. Gainesville Florida has the densest pÆ°opulation of government and student busybodies and activists outside of the PRC. It seems there are more government offices there than in DC. Every federal and state agency has a big office in Gainesville. It is the only place I have been where strangers would come up to you on the sidewalk and tell you how you are living your life wrong. The traffic lights are insane. If you cross a busy intersection when the light turns green you will be hit. Two cars always run the red light. There is a lo-o-o-ong period when the lights are red all around to prevent that but the locals have internalized that and when the light turns green for you, two cars will cross in front of you or will T-bone you. I have many stories of personal experiences and observations about Gainesville in the 70s, all of them weird and when I visit down there I am reminded that nothing changes except that the place gets bigger.
