This is my second posting, for anyone who may have missed it the first time.
Bookmark the website located at the link.
Copy the article you want to post and paste it in the top box located at the linked website. Press convert, then copy the converted text and paste it into the Free Republic "Body of Thread" box.
Try it a few times. It's basically self-explanatory and very easy.
Thanks.
Cool.
And remember, if you don’t have this link later, google clean up smart quotes or something similar.
Remember smart quotes.
I've passed this link along but it needs a thread to get noticed.
Works really well, easy & fast.
This issue should have been fixed by FR’s webmaster months ago. IT professionals here have stated that it’s a fifteen minute fix.
Firefox has an addin ‘Copy Plan Text’. You get the option from right click popup menu.
Great help, Dan. Would it be possible for your conversion method to be automatically incorporated into FR’s code for posting and commenting?
I’ve just been fixing the problem manually for the benefit of my fellow FReepers, as it’s just plain annoying to read all those weird characters. I replace quotes, dashes, etc. manually when I paste stuff.
FR also messes up quotes and apostrophes that a poster types in reply as well
Got a fix for that?
This has been going on around 6 months

LOL. It would be easier to just fix the buggy code that is causing the problem in the first place.
If you have a bug in your code, you fix the bug, you don’t add a new feature as a workaround to help you avoid addressing the bug.
Unless there is a mass banning, the crazy characters will be with us forever.
But it would be nice to get rid of these extraneous symbols.
I hadn’t bookmarked it the first time, so thanks for posting this again.
I have been highlighting the problem punctuation’s and retyping it and re-post.
Works for me and it’s quick and easy.
