Polls: Cruz Would Fare 5 Points Better Versus Clinton Than Trump Would
Weekly Standard ^ | 2/11/2016 | Jeffrey H. Anderson

Among the two candidates whose results look at all like those of an eventual GOP presidential nominee, polling suggests that Ted Cruz would do significantly better than Donald Trump in the general election. According to the Real Clear Politics average of recent polls, Cruz would fare 5 points better versus Hillary Clinton than Trump would.

Polling has consistently shown Cruz to have an advantage over Trump in this regard: Fox News found that Cruz would fare 4 points better than Trump, beating Clinton by 7 points (50 to 43 percent) to Trump's 3 (47 to 44 percent). NBC News and the Wall Street Journal found that Cruz would fare 6 points better than Trump, losing to Clinton by 4 points (49 to 45 percent) to Trump's 10 (51 to 41 percent). And Quinnipiac found that Cruz would fare 5 points better than Trump, tying Clinton (at 45 percent apiece) while Trump would lose by 5 points (46 to 41 percent).

In all, RCP's average finds that Cruz would beat Clinton by 1 point (47 to 46 percent), while Trump would lose by 4 points (47 to 43 percent).

He was sincere in wanting the amendments to pass, because he knew they would poison the bill. Democrats wanted nothing less than citizenship and this strategy exposed it.

Jeff Sessions used the same kinds of parliamentary measures and he has explained the strategy that he and Cruz used several times.

Those people were coming to a rock concert and Obama showed up for a while. I also think they were given free beer.

The Rinos would have a brokered convention and block Cruz.

Even Trump with much greater 40 percent support faces a brokered convention if he doesn’t have all the votes needed.

Only thing is that Trump if Screwed over will start a new real Conservative Nationalistic party and the present bought and paid for lobbyist GOP E party will go the way of the WHIG party.

I guess GWB had no say in any of it-huh?

You are making his point for him - GWB had ALL of the say, not Cruz.

Cruz would pick better SC judges? Like, oh say- John Roberts?

Did you support John Roberts?

Can you name one conservative icon that, at the time of his nomination, did not support John Roberts?

His business isn’t worth anywhere near 10B and he quit building over a decade ago. Now he foots only a portion and slaps his name on his garbage because he isn’t worth the risk. A real valuation would expose that he isn’t even a top tier developer in New York.

The fact is, Trump is the least liked candidate, with the highest negatives in the field. He will lose the general election if he gets nominated. For one thing, in a one on one debate on policy, his shallowness on the issues will be glaringly obvious. Hillary or Sanders would cream him.

As bad a campaigner as hillary is Trump will make her look brilliant. Trump won't be able to control himself and will make ugly remarks about hillary's looks, or intelligence, and she will be off and running playing the "victim". The media will eat it up and the mushy middle will be manipulated into feeling sympathy for her. On top of that, once Trump starts attacking hillary about bill's lack of character and her failure to deal with it the Rats are going to start pointing out all his affairs with married women and the ugly things said in his divorce proceedings.

If Trump started such a party it would give him a lot of credibility towards his conservative comments

i would be happy with that.

and a little nationalism isn’t such a bad thing.
