Polls: Cruz Would Fare 5 Points Better Versus Clinton Than Trump Would
Weekly Standard ^ | 2/11/2016 | Jeffrey H. Anderson

Posted on 02/12/2016 3:30:25 PM PST by conservativejoy

Among the two candidates whose results look at all like those of an eventual GOP presidential nominee, polling suggests that Ted Cruz would do significantly better than Donald Trump in the general election. According to the Real Clear Politics average of recent polls, Cruz would fare 5 points better versus Hillary Clinton than Trump would.

Polling has consistently shown Cruz to have an advantage over Trump in this regard: Fox News found that Cruz would fare 4 points better than Trump, beating Clinton by 7 points (50 to 43 percent) to Trump's 3 (47 to 44 percent). NBC News and the Wall Street Journal found that Cruz would fare 6 points better than Trump, losing to Clinton by 4 points (49 to 45 percent) to Trump's 10 (51 to 41 percent). And Quinnipiac found that Cruz would fare 5 points better than Trump, tying Clinton (at 45 percent apiece) while Trump would lose by 5 points (46 to 41 percent).

In all, RCP's average finds that Cruz would beat Clinton by 1 point (47 to 46 percent), while Trump would lose by 4 points (47 to 43 percent).

Debates are important, but, don’t mean anything in the long run. GWB didn’t do well in debates and won 2 elections, so, don’t hang your hat on a debate performance.

Cruz can’t even beat Trump in any national polls and in very few state polls.

That’s why I find him beating Clinton a bit suspect.

Cruz has done a lot. If you're a gun owner, thank Ted Cruz for protecting your right to own a gun. He won a landmark case at the Supreme Court to ensure that individuals have the right to keep and bear arms. Additionally:

"We stopped the Gang of Eight bill. Ted Cruz led the fight against the establishment would be living under amnesty right now if Cruz had not succeeded." - Rush Limbaugh.

"It was that close to being passed... and I think I can say this with integrity. Without the vigorous opposition of Ted Cruz, this bill likely would have passed." - Sen. Jeff Sessions

Too lazy to look for it, but another freeper posted about the weighting on RCP going against common sense.

You do know she is his older sister nearly 80. Don’t think he will but he loves her. Cruz is decades old friend with Obamacare Roberts.

of course he would, he’s the only real conservative.

This^^^^^!

Right now it looks like Trump is winning. He is doing this by lying, being crude, demeaning and denigrating opponents and saying simple phrases with no substance. Every time he does get cornered into providing some substance his NY values start to show. He loves eminent domain. He thinks Planned Parenthood does a lot of good and should continue to be funded. He's okay with unnatural marriage. He thinks some form of govt run healthcare is okay. He's opposed to amnesty, but as long as they go back the "good ones" can come back permanently. He's going to rebuild the military without increasing spending.

There is a lot more to being a president than being able to debate. However, this seems to be all the Cruzbots believe in - Cruz isn’t the best - heck, even Christie, Rubio and Huckabee do better than he does. Well, Rubio did well until Christie pancaked him.

Anything coming from Kristol's Standard Weakling is automatically suspect.

Agreed, and if Kristol is pumping this story, then it tells me the GOPe is eyeing Cruz as their candidate.

But why would Kristol and friends would want that?   The last few weeks the GOPe has been telegraphing us that Cruz doesn't get along with anybody in Congress.

Ah, but you know that Rubio and Jeb are not gonna make it, they want to latch onto Cruz.

Is the GOPe the "anybody but Trump" party?

What do ya think? How you Cruz supporters, could this true?

Cruz would pick better SC judges? Like, oh say- John Roberts?

He was very clear about who he wanted selected and when that person wasn't he was stuck with Roberts.

There are a lot of reasons to like, respect, and vote for Trump. He kills it on the economy.

This is the battle as I see it; illogical morons with their lips permanently fastened to government tits outnumber those of us who are paying for it all. That is a fact. Trump represents the only hope for getting enough crossover and independent votes to overcome those tit sucking parasites. Cruz simply will not pull in enough votes to do it. Trump is the only chance we have.

I will vote for whoever is the republican nominee but none but Trump stand a chance at winning this fall. The popularity of Sanders, and by default socialism, coupled with the fact the number of parasites outnumber those who make up the host proves that beyond any doubt in my mind.

the average voter doesn’t know who Cruz is.... if he gains any traction the media will begin to destroy him...... he would get fewer votes than Romney by far

“You do know she is his older sister nearly 80. Don’t think he will but he loves her. Cruz is decades old friend with Obamacare Roberts.”

So one vouches for a radical leftist, the other vouched for who he thought was a Conservative. yeah, you totally got me there.

he is a DISASTER. he WILL LOSE the easiest election to win in decades.

his unpopularity is huge!!

every older woman i knew that was gonna vote for him wont now after his use of that sweet word last week.

i know NO DEM that is switching. It’s like we forgot what dems stand for and every leader that says he has “cross over appeal” never gives a poll to back that up!!

if he had that appeal, he’d be beating hillary by 9 not losing by three, while Cruz wins by 1.

such nonsense and tomfoolery over a nut who decided last year he wanted to play president and change almost every value overnight.

That’s not really “a lot”, that’s two things. And the second one, you can only give him “credit” for that if you ignore what he was saying at the time he introduced his amendments to the Gang of 8 bill. He claimed at the time that he was being completely sincere and totally wanted the bill to pass, then when it came up now in the campaign, he says he was lying back then and it was a big poison pill scam to kill the bill.

So even if he was “victorious” against the Gang of 8 bill, he’s still a liar. Some big win. :/

There are too many candidates splitting the non Trump vote. In a two way race Cruz beats Trump by several points.

Building a 10B business and signing the paychecks of 30,000 employees is a circus. That real-life business experience is worthless to the country.

Yeah. Ok.

The Weekly Standard rides in again with their crap.

I have yet to meet anyone who is not repulsed by Hillary. I really cannot imagine a man actually voting for her. I mean, that voice alone is enough to horrify anyone. Then there are other things.
