That happened to you too?
NNNNOOOOOOOO! PULEEEEEEESE NO.
A company called RST makes black powder shells for those old shotguns. Before you fire it, have a gunsmith check it to make sure the barrel is not cracked (a fairly common problem in Damascas steel). RST has shells in multiple gauges and loads. They manufacture specifically for the old guns, 2 1/2” length, lower power black powder charges. Don’t throw that thing away, it might even be valuable for parts, for a collector or gunsmith, they don’t make new parts for them.
Same with my perazzi, krieghoff and merkel.....scary pieces of crap.....:o)
I actually had a K80, friggin’ thing swung like a railroad tie. Gone the Caesar Guerini route now.
Our goodwill, etc here won’t take them anymore. Absolutely no one wants them. We do have a pair of guys that run ads in craigslist that will pick them up for free. They are recyclers.
I use RST in my short chambered 16 gauge guns, their Paper Lite 7/8th ounce load is very pleasant in my 1914 Browning A5, and Ithaca NID.
Ummm I live in California. A few years ago inreplaced the old 28 inch tv in our living room and set it out in the garage with some other stuff for Goodwill. When they came they refused to take it. Just said they don’t take them anymore.
That’s when it’s time for “midnight dropoff” LOL
That was “a few years ago.” Most Goodwills now are eager to get them because they’re now a money-maker due to the recent advent of the state’s recycling buyback program, at $0.20/lb. or so. However, Goodwill foundations are regional and vary according to management strategies, and it may be the one in your area isn’t interested. That’s especially true for larger TVs, because large CRTs are heavy and thus dangerous to lift—some have imposed size limits for that reason, such as 25” or 27”.
It surprises me that a bunch of people I have talked to, who claim to collect the old stuff, never heard of them. They don’t advertise much, tho.
We have a pair of guys who advertise on Craigslist and will come and pick up any recyclables. I always call them now.
Almost certainly they’re then selling them under the state’s recycling program. Free in-home pickup is a distinct plus, especially now that you’ve already found them not to be another Craigslist personal threat. Sure beats hauling them to the periodic local Recycling Roundup.
Old Krugerrands are dangerous too. They get highly radioactive over time. I have a disposal service for them if you have a need.
Man I bought a bunch of Krugers back in the Carter years.
It was cool because you were thumbing your nose at the liberal apartheid boycott bunch.
;^D
Well done! A sound investment and a keepsake- give the old gal a thorough smith look over, then build some light pyrodex loads and kill a few Arkansas quail! Honor the gun by using it!
My 1908 Elgin Hammer gun ( fluid steel bbls) gets a light work out now and again up here in the MO Ozarks.
Thanks for your service!
Uncle Larry would be happy....... he was a Perrazi addict, bent barrels and all.
May all you days be 100 straight Slim..... Stay Safe !
In the late 90’s I came a hair away from buying a .50 Barrett with 1000 rounds of ammo on layaway for $3000 at a pawn shop. Been kicking myself for years for not doing it then.
