As regards nothing political, I made my weekly stroll through the local pawn shops today. Mondays are when they put all the guns they recovered from recent boating accidents and I sometimes pick up a good deal. There was a woman in one trying to pawn a small safe. She didn't have the combination so couldn't get open. Apparently she had called ahead to ask if they took safes and was told yes. She was screaming to heaven about all the work she did getting it there and they better give her some money for it.
The guy behind the counter explained how worthless it is if you can't get in it but she was too dense to understand. Finally he told her he would give her $10 and asked for some ID. She left the safe on the counter and was out the door in 10 seconds flat. This is what we are working so hard to support with our tax dollars.
Maybe we should demand a drug test before you can pawn anything.
I inherited one of the Damascus rolled steel double barrel shotguns made by LeFever Arms Co from my grandfather when I was seven years old. He traded a pig for it during the great depression. It has been in my closet for the over 30 years. I have been meaning to take it to a police sponsored gun buy back since I was told when I was a child I could never shoot new shells in it.
I was in line a month ago they were giving 50cents for dvds...I was there a hour...it was the most interesting hour ive had in some time...one couple and I started talking about Trump...and a muslim lady went right off the rails...screaming for about 15 min...then as this was happening a huge amazinian looking pregnat black lady came in and stod in line....then an irate older white guy came in yelling that she parking in handicapped....then a bunch of “relatives”?...of the prgnat amazonian came in and threated ...well they all were threatening the white guy...then someone called the cops...the cops made her move her car....it was really intersting
I hired a contractor to do some work for me once, and the guy was just a shifty guy, I felt I had to keep my eye on him the whole time.
At the time, there was an old floor safe in my office, big steel thing, probably weight about 600 pounds. It used to belong to a lawyer who has a practiced there about 40 years before. The safe even had the lawyer’s name pained on it in nice gild letters, “Whoever, Esq.” Very impressive piece of furniture
It was opened when I moved in, but one of my kids closed it and spun the dial one day, and I just wanted to get rid of.
So, I told this guy about the safe, about the lawyer, and how I couldn’t get it open (I left out the part about nothing in it.) His eyes lit up like a pinball machine.
“Awww... I’ll help you get rid of it.”
“I dunno. I don’t want to pay money to get rid of it.”
“Aww, gosh, you’re such a good customer - No charge!”
“Uh... OK. Sure.”
The next day he came by with his kids and they manhandled that thing out of my office.
What a relief to get rid of the thing.
I run a disposal service for such guns and will take them off your hands free of charge....Know anything about a George Bury of London (queens armorer) 10 guage field grade? I’m dieng for info, but can’t find anything on the interwebbie.
Don't even joke about such things.
Nah...
But I do favor drug testing for those on welfare.
In California it's been illegal for over a decade to throw away any electronics: all must be recycled. The concern was that such electronics were shipped to Asia and then stripped by peasants, who were exposed to dangerous chemicals.
The state created a program, funded by an $8 fee on all new TVs, to pay local companies ~20 cents-per-pound to send CRTs to certified-responsible local recyclers. However, to prevent a flood of CRTs from out-of-staters, the in-state source must be strictly documented. So, Goodwills and other thrift stores have become eager to receive such donations, although with the demise of CRTs that business's life-cycle is ending. Additionally, recyclers hold periodic free recycling roundups in every community where residents drop off their electronics.
At least here in Indiana, Goodwill no longer takes “ANY” TV’s Not even nice LED models.
Hey EOD, don’t give that LeFever away-espc to a cop for free even if it is a damascus bbl’d gun. There is a market for such guns for guys who reload with black or pyrodex- may be worth a nice penny.
I found out what’s its worth back in 1990, I use to look for rare coins at the local pawn shops and one day I saw one in the shop and asked about it. The owner told me to bring mine in and he would appraise it. It appraised for $1800 26 years ago, I get it out once a year and give it a good cleaning and oiling, but that gun ain’t going anywhere.
You didn’t mention Purdy, so I pitched it in the dumpster.
The Double Gun Journal, several years ago ran an article where a guy bought up a truck load of damascus and twist barrel “wall hangers” (not top quality guns) and fired them (from a distance) using modern SAAMI proof loads (18,000 psi) and none blew up. Stocks cracked, forends popped off, and the actions opened, but no blowups.
Damascus barrels on high grade guns were available into the 20’s as an option, proofed for smokeless.
Still, as corrosion can weaken the barrels structure from the inside out, it’s best to avoid firing them.
ONE DAY AT THE GUN SHOP
My best friend just me told about his latest visit to a local gun shop in Houston. While he was there, a woman came in and approached the counter with a large hand bag.
WOMAN: Do you buy pistols?
CLERK: Yes, bring them in.
The woman immediately dumps the contents of the bag on the counter. A half dozen nice German pistols such as Lugers and broomhandle Mausers tumble out.
WIDE-EYED CLERK: Are those loaded?
WOMAN: Hell, I don’t know - they were my husband’s. I just want to get them out of the house, they scare me. Do those ever go off by themselves?
The clerk nervously dropped magazines and opened slides looking for chambered rounds.
CLERK: How much do you want for them?
WOMAN: I think my husband paid $50 each, so I’d want at least that much.
CLERK: Oh, I assure you they are worth far more than that.
To the store’s credit, they paid her an honest and tidy sum.
I bet you will..............
I think...many people have lost all their guns..in boating accidents.
They will take time out of their busy day to vote Democrat.
Or maybe not........
We do know that you haven’t given us any talking points in opposition to gun control.
I’ve a Blue Healer....smarter than the whole state of California.
