As Iowans prepare to head to the caucuses on Monday for the nation's first votes in the presidential primaries, the campaigns are pulling out all the stops. The mailer sent out by one Republican campaign, however, might end up backfiring.
Tom Hinkeldey, a resident of Alta, Iowa, tweeted a photo (which was later deleted because it included his personal address) on Friday evening of a mailer Sen. Ted Cruzâs campaign sent addressed to his wife, Steffany. The mailer was a large card printed to look like a manila envelope on one side and was labeled in all capital letters, "ELECTION ALERT," "VOTER VIOLATION," "PUBLIC RECORD," and "FURTHER ACTION NEEDED."
On the other side, the mailer said in red letters at the top, "VOTING VIOLATION."
Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler confirmed to IJ Review that the mailer was theirs in a phone call Friday evening, saying that the targeting had been "very narrow, but the caucuses are important and we want people who havenât voted before to vote."

ha.
By narrow, I thought he meant a select/limited mailing within Iowa.
These “shaming” mailers is not a conservative thing to do. It will NOT work on Iowans. This was a huge stupid move on Cruz to allow this to happen. Stupid, stupid. YOU DO NOT BULLY PEOPLE INTO VOTING!
PS. I will vote for Cruz in the April Pennsylvania primary but think that Trump will now have the nomination in March.
Probably the elderly and infirm. They’re usually the ones targeted by sleazebags.
Not too sure about that... This isn’t a primary where you just show up and vote. If certain conservatives get this and they show up planning to teach Ted a lesson and then they see someone from their community that is well liked and respected encouraging support for Cruz...they might get on that bandwagon.
It would make sense, particularly since until yesterday, there wasn't so much as a grumble about anyone in the campaign being unhappy.
Beck maneuver? And Beck is back this weekend....
This is a very liberal tactic. Talk about tyranny. Coming from the Cruz camp, I find that pathetic.
Holy Crap. Aren’t Firearms license lists public record? Maybe Ted should mail those around.
Shaming letters will be a small net minus. As a plus there might be some who go to the polls because of them and might even support Cruz; but the minus part will be what it is turned into by Trump. He will paint the picture and because of the nature of how information flows that will be all some people get on the issues. It will cost Cruz a little but it won’t be a lot. Nevertheless, at this point even a small misstep could mean the difference between second or third for him.
Well, if this was such a great thing, then I do expect we will see Cruz having won this very tight race.
I do believe that “chant” ad with the focus on Heidi’s eyes was a joke ad from someone.
It never said it was made by “Cruz For President.”
But, I have to say, that was one funny “fake” ad.
That is generally my thinking, as well.
Some think it’s good, but I’m definitely not onboard with their position.
Hillary says “Thank you! XOXOXO, SWAK” .
If Senator Cruz is willing to so invade your privacy for a single caucus vote, just imagine what he could do with the NSA as president. I’d rather not find out.
I have received daily irritating scolding emails from Cruz and Heidi ever since I made a small contribution. His advisors are clueless re schmoozing for more $. I was for Cruz as my #2 but no more because of it.
It smacks of a position of moral superiority that only a totally arrogant and self righteous person would assume they had to begin with.
Does anyone have confirmation of whether that ad was real or a parody?
Folks, the Donald is proving himself a master of leverage and negotiation. At each step he says NO to traditional practices while accessing the existing dynamic allowing him to pivot in any direction.
His tactics are proving to be revolutionary and highly effective. Attempting to pigeon hole and explain Donald according to traditional rules and our own bias, is not working.
Everyday I am thankful Donald decided to enter this race. Thursdays debate was a glimpse of what it would have looked like without The Donald. It wasn't pretty and it wasn't good. They all looked like distant back benchers. The J V team on display.
That thing looks a lot like a Trump University report card!
I can’t speak for anyone else, but if I’d received this mailer, I would not vote for Cruz.
