CONCORD, N.C....
The Cabarrus County Health Department is investigating after a woman said she saw roadkill being taken to a Concord restaurant over the weekend.
That woman took a picture Sunday afternoon after she saw the people in the car pick up a dead deer off the road and throw it in the back of a car.
She recognized the car from it delivering food to her home and office.
"I just couldn't believe what I was seeing," said the woman, who didn’t want to be identified.
She called police after the car drove behind China Fun with the roadkill in the back.
Saw ducks hanging outside at a local Chinese Restaurant. Flies all over them. Never did eat there.
Why? I hear male Lug is very tasty....
My husband was t sure the men were cutting up the calf for a restaurant but that was his first thought

About 15 years ago we had just moved to Sacramento from San Jose. My wife and I decided to try a Chinese restaurant in a strip mall near our house. The food wasn’t very good. The vegetables were old, wilty and fried in too much oil. We didn’t finish our meal, paid, left and didn’t go back.
About a month later we read that the Sacramento Health Dept had shut down the Chinese restaurant. It seems the owners had been observed going behind the supermarket in the strip mall and picking vegetables out of the supermarket trash, taking them back to their restaurant and serving them. Gak.
We’ve since learned how to make really good Kung Pao Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, Pork Fried Rice and Hot and Sour Soup from scratch at home.
Now I want some Chinese food. Guess I will have to wait till tomorrow.

A German will eat about anything! Lol. I remeber my Grandmother sending us Grandkids to the creek to get a couple buckets of Big Frogs so she couldfry them up in the leftover bacon fat in an old coffe can under the sink. Damn good eats!

Of course...and I recall my father telling me of his childhood in the Appalachian foothills during the Great Depression...about he and his brother trapping birds and rodents.
Those birds and rodents were in truth, sparrows and pack rats and most likely were the biggest source of protein for them for the week.
Not that they went hungry, but potatoes and corn and poke salad can carry you only so far.
Probably one of the reasons that after he became successful, he would not eat any piece of meat that did not have that blue USDA stamp on it, somewhere.
But I like to think that if I go into an establishment for Kung Pao Chicken, that I'm not getting Screech Bang Venison or maybe Squashed Possum Pao.
Not that I wouldn't eat either, if it came down to it...just tell me about it.
I've eaten rat, cat, dog, 'coon, possum and Almighty God only knows what else, in my worldly travels, but I knew full well that it wasn't USDA-inspected prime grass-fed beef and it didn't come off the steamer table of the local Chinese takeout, with a Health Department inspection sheet on the wall next to the cash register.
Once, as a young Buck SGT, stationed at Fort Rucker back in the '70's, after returning from VN, I was assigned as an MP Game Warden.
One of the bennies was that we were allowed to hunt on duty and with a daily allowance of one buck per day, back in those day, and an average 90 day season...well, we ate a lot, a lot of venison.
People gave us fish by the buckets...quail...squirrel, rabbit...turkey, you name it, if it was a legal game animal or was killed legally, we got it.
Got to the point that my wife built a legend around Enterprise, Level Plains and Daleville on her skill at wild game cooking, especially venison.
She learned a rattlesnake recipe that was used by the Opp Rattle Snake Rodeo and Roundup, after I brought her a 6 footer that I'd cut up after skinning and told her it was catfish.
She learned from that, that catfish and rattlesnake don't deep fry quite the same.
She made me eat it, anyway, for lying to her, but the next batch, she did it right and I had folks following me around, wanting to sample.
So, you're right...you do what you gotta do, especially if you're a young married buck SGT, fresh back from VN, making a grand total of $430 dollars a month, out of which you gotta make rent, car payment, clothes for your wife, gas for the car to get her back and forth from the Dr...'cause she's pregnant and due any day.
Ohh...those were the good old days!
Happened to some friends of mine. An 8 point jumped off a bank into the side of a 65 Impala. They thought it broke it’s neck and were loading him into the trunk when he woke from his slumber.

MENTOR, Ohio — Animal cruelty charges have been filed against two men after a goat is found tied up at a Mentor restaurant, NewsChannel5 reported.
Police say they got a tip call Tuesday that the goat was being held, hog-tied, behind the Grand Buffet Restaurant, along with 13 caged pigeons.
Police arrested 30-year-old Yu Zheng, of Geneva, and 35-year-old He En Liu, of Macon, Ga.
The Lake County Humane Society now has the goat as the animal recovers.
The humane society’s Candance Hertzel says it is very unusual for them to get calls about farm animals.
It is not known why the men were keeping the animals captive.
Someone has already volunteered to take the pigeons as pets.
The Lake County Health Department is also conducting an investigation.
As a follow up, while not in the article, I recall that the folks in question said they were keeping the animals as pets. Yea. Right.

A couple of years ago was at a state fine arts meeting. We were served a sandwich that had sprouts in it. Being the only one from a rural area my colleagues chided me Had I Ever eaten them
I replied in my southern most twang “ sure and bear,possum,squirrel ,deer ,rattle snake just last week. You all are the ones that are culturally deprived !
We had had a annual naturalist dinner the week before where everything brought had to be caught,shot or grown local.
It went on for years. Had a neighbor who would shot a squirrel and fix gravy and biscuits for breakfast. She was an ace shot.
Country folks do survive !

The Chinese restaurants in my city have Mexican staffed kitchens and you can hear the Tejano music pouring out of the kitchen.
So what? Deer is good eating and as long as the deer was freshly killed, and handled in a way as not to dirty up the kitchen, it just makes sense to use it.
