Alcohol Voted 'Worst' Christmas Gift
The results of a recent poll by review and research organisation Consumer Reports have revealed alcohol is considered the "worst" gift to receive at Christmas.
The Consumer Reports National Research Center designed a survey to explore "general sentiment and shopping behaviours" for the 2015 winter holiday season.
Out of the 1,300 US residents polled - statistically weighted so that respondents in the survey were demographically and geographically representative of the US population - spirits such as vodka, rum and whisky received the highest number of votes for 'worst gift', with 20% listing booze as the gift they would least want to receive.
Flowers came in next at 14%, anything 'clearly re-gifted' came in at 12%, while home decor items such as picture frames and candles received 11% of the votes.
Lottery tickets received 10% of the votes, with 5% identified gift cards as the worst gift.
In total 80% said they'd prefer to receive a 'practical present' and when given a choice between money and a gift card, 57% chose cash.
Alcohol is a good gift. When we have a party, we have everything that we need to serve people what they want.
If anyone wants to give me alcohol, which was voted ‘Worst’ Christmas Gift, you may contact me at FReeRepublic.com
I love you man.

Through transit, the bottle had leaked.
When it got to the mailroom it was evident by smell of it's contents, which my Dad had declared as "shaving lotion".
My 1st Sergeant handed it to me with a wink and advised not to drink all the "shaving lotion at once.
Well shoot, I just wasted 75 bucks on scotch for my dad then. Better tell him to be prepared for disappointment, usually he loves it but what does he know. :/
My mother and my ex-husband both died (young) of alcohol-related failure, so I am not my of a drinker; nor is my husband. Would prefer other items as gifts, even a good fruitcake. But alcohol does seem to be popular, such as at our office gift exchange.
I disagree. I think lottery tickets are absolutely the worst gifts ever.
“Here you go, Timmy. Here’s a lottery ticket that could win you millions! Ain’t I a generous guy?”
“C’mon, Uncle Bubba! That thing cost you all of $2.00. Thanks a lot, you cheap sonofa... - and I’ll take back that bottle of Wild Turkey you just cracked open at TEN THIRTY in the morning, you drunk!”
I guess no one is doing this anymore.
Nor would my parents at a carton of cigarettes.
Are you a 10-year-old?
If someone wants to impress me, they can buy me a bottle of Urziger Wurzgarten Auslese. You can probably buy a bottle of the 2013 vintage for under $40.
I'd be really impressed if I was given a bottle of Piesporter Michelberg Auslese. My palate is not so discerning that I could tell the difference between the two, and Piesport gets a bad rap IMO. You can find it almost anywhere for under $15.
If there is an "AP #" on the label, then it was tested by the German government. Urzig is a great town, but auslese is auslese.

heh... and if Timmy DOES win, you KNOW the giver is going to expect a SUBSTANTIAL piece of it.
I expect I will get cigars for Christmas this year, and plenty of good booze! Santa always comes through, yeah.
Great Fruitcakes!
How about Pepsi and Ding Dongs?
If someone gave me a bottle of Johnnie Walker, black, I’d be delighted.
Worst: “The in-laws are coming.”
I LOVE a good red wine with cheese/crackers. I also enjoy the endless options of IPA beers, it’s wonderful!
They’re BOTH on my Christmas list :) ...highly appreciated too.
How is that not a great gift if the person appreciates it??? You can surprise with the choices and it’s not too expensive. I think many people just feel like an alcoholic to put it on a Christmas list, otherwise they would!!
