Raqqa, Syria
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.
"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."
An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.
Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."
According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.
"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."
So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."

It’s only 106 outside, and really not too bad in the shade. Charlie and I had our own private chat for most of 90 minutes, until his neighbor came out. Charlie reminds me a lot of you, Bob, but not quite as educated. Still, he knows a lot about a lot of things, and when it’s just the two of us, he’s quite the talker. Add one or two people and he just sits and listens. ;o]
He IS a Trekkie, though, and fascinated with space and time travel and I think if I could write about the Flying Castle, he would really enjoy reading it.

We have storms here, too. I have to go to a meeting at 7:00.
DP drove my RX-7, and now it has a flat tire.
I've purchased three tires in the last couple of weeks; two for the little blue car, and one as a spare for my truck.
I bought used tires, because these vehicles are only driven locally.
Maybe the tire can be fixed.
Because it’s the RX-7, the tires on it may have a little age. They should be looked at carefully. This kind of car will need good tires if it is to be driven safely.
No teenagers; even for a milk run.
Seems that every time the RX7 ventures forth something happens..
We got the torrential rain and some gusty winds but the thunderous part was kind of a dud. Only one loud boomnoise. Not an impressive display at all.
The line of energy is now past us and we are left in the wet wake.
The cats are complaining about being evicted from their windowledges. When the rain ceases to splatter on the screens I’ll return the use of the window to them by hoisting the pane...
Spent a couple of months in Texas for the company’s benefit many years ago (early ‘80s). I was in the Houston area with occasional treks to Galveston.
It was long enough ago that I don’t remember what time of year it was. I don’t remember any raging thunder storms while I was there unless they happened on alternating weekends when they flew me home. I do remember that when the wind came from the East or South it was hot and humid. And when the wind came from the North or West it was hot and dry..
Whether any thing that relates to Houston equates to anything in the DFW area I don’t know.. ;-)

I would say, based on an estimation from my observation, that they held at least 5 mm proud of the tread base. They seem relatively new, with plenty of wear left on them.
I suspect that many of the tires sold in this way come from vehicles that will no longer be driven, for various reasons. If I were not able to employ them, they would be wasted along with the car from which they were separated.
And rest assured, they are in very much better shape than the tires they replaced. I cautioned the mechanic to be careful about the loose strands of steel that were sticking out of the carcass.
My cats are like that, too.
We haven’t had rain yet. There were a few people in the pool when I went to the community center, but it wasn’t very nice for them.
