Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.
"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."
An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.
Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."
According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.
"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."
So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."

Back from church, but I was actually back two hours ago. I came in, changed clothes, and went outside to talk to the peeps. 95 degrees and me still in long sleeves! :o]
I forgot to get detergent the last time I had money, so I hope I have enough for two loads tomorrow. *sheesh*
Soon I need to write to my grandson, and then I will read a bit before going to bed.

For some reason, the Dell has been fighting me all afternoon. It’s so frustrating. I don’t know how far I’ll get with the letter to my grandson, but I’m going to at least start it.
I hope the money is in my account tomorrow. The grocery list is getting longer by the day. *sigh*
We might go to the botanical garden tomorrow, if the weather looks okay. If not, there’s a Memorial Day celebration in Lake Park.

I read the write-up on the latest in the 911 line from the venerable works at Stuttgart. Sadly, it seems that the driver is — in such a technologically advanced machine — less and less a part of the act; perhaps stuck in the background in an ensemble role. The author of the article lamented as much: the car was SO precise it all but drove itself leaving the sport-minded driver feeling somewhat left out.

I drive for EXPERIENCE; I want to feel the torque, feel the steering response, hear the exhaust note playing up and down the scale with the staccato rap of an off-throttle downshift, work the heel-and-toe to get the braking and the shift spot-on (or not) MYSELF — I don’t want some soulless electronic brain under the driver’s seat doing it all for me. REAL driving is — for me, at least — VISCERAL at root. Detach me so much from the pavement and I may as well be cruising at 30,000 feet sipping gin and tonic.

Ah, yes, there is that.
Here in America we have a solution for that sort of thing: we simply don’t teach the dicey bits of our history in the public schools, anymore. Helps keep the national blood pressure down. Of course we do still hit the major themes; get the broad strokes of the brush on those young canvasses, but we stop short of laying out the nitty gritty details that might stand as proof that one side had been in the right, and the other wrong.
Except slavery, of course. Slavery we simply boil down to white=evil, black=divine and let the rest of the chips fall wherever they may.
So it is that there’s not nearly so much uproar when Obama takes his “America Apologizes Tour” to Japan, and all but grovels about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Thanks to public education, the “yutes” are hard pressed to discern any moral superiority to our conflict with Imperial Japan, so it’s relatively easy for them to think we were wrong to drop the atomic bombs.
Utopia just seems SO much closer when you remove the moral plot line from a nation’s history.

Since taking possession of my self-propelled-computer twisty roads have lost most of their appeal. This causes the velocity to have to be increased in order to gain the entertainment level again. Which is just dangerous on roads lined with hedges and patrolled by Deer.
