ISIS Surrenders in face of Climate Change Conference
Vanity | 12/10/2015 | ArGee

Raqqa, Syria

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.

"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."

An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.

Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."

According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.

"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."

So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."

Well, if your community isn’t ready to move to fiber or cable, then you can get a DSLAM from Office Depot for just around $1.3k with free shipping.

Do people still use Telcos?

Anyone who is willing to be related to Tom is welcome to join the family. When he’s global dictator, you’ll be glad you did!

Somehow, I can see Tom as Global Dictator. It’s rather fitting for a tame ogre.

The pills came today, and I was quite relieved. I only ordered four bottles of milk thistle last month, by some quirk, and I ran out. So I was very happy to see that there were five in the box today! My pore brems. They only function when they want to.

I’ll be heading for the bedroom, soon.

The pain clinic called and rescheduled my appointment from Monday, the 25th to Thursday, the 28th. That’s a relief! I’m still scheduled for the lower spine procedure on the 19th, and I’m really hoping I can get a ride there. They won’t accept me without a driver.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I have been munching on things the entire day, and I don’t know why. That’s not a good thing, because now, I have to replace the yogurt and the rice pudding, and I’m not sure I have enough for that. I also ate about five slices of cheese. *groan* (What is WRONG with me???)

And now I’m having chills again, so bed is looking better and better. (And I still have a month to wait for the SNAP to be replaced. Dangit.)

Maybe in bed I can forget about the hand-to-mouth habit.

I’ve had the munchies all day, too.

Now my fingernails are shot.

They have fiber to the DSLAM and copper to the house. The local monopoly cable company offers cable to house but Time Warner is on my pound-sand list, so they don’t get my money. Supposedly the telco is working on/has a relationship with those Bell people (aka Verizon) to roll out FIOS - fiber is already to the box at the end of the drive as stated - to the house, but on an unknown time frame..

The advantage of being with the telco was apparent in the aftermath of Sandy a few years back. Our area was without power for either five or six days (don’t remember for sure) but with the local distribution box & DSLAM right at the foot of our drive with its internal UPS, phone and internet service was still on. The internal battery UPS finally died but that gave the telco time to bring out a portable generator (which they chained to the enclosure to prevent opportunistic scavenging)that kept things going so we had both phone and interwebs for the duration of the ‘blackout’.

We have one POTS phone so it was active all the time, and over the time frame I rationed my computer UPS’s so I could fire up my network and main computer periodically to check in, check weather, check local power utility’s projected fix time and all that. The local cable subscribers were without internet or phone service until the power was restored to the cable company place. Local cell phone service was also dead for the duration..

Remains to be seen what happens to my POTS phone if and when they roll out the FIOS..

And to think that once upon a time if you called coast to coast there was a physical connection all across the country between your phone and the callee.. (Of course the evil AT&T had that long lines monopoly. And they built a granite covered monolith in lower Manhattan to handle projected growth. You can view it at 23 Thomas St. The address was previously 323 Broadway. A visual of the location as it now stands will reveal why the Broadway address is no longer used. There is more to that story.. ;-)

I’ve been by both.

As for FIOS, I called them because they were offering $10 off TWC for the first year and had offered me another $5 off for 2 years so that would have saved money. And it turns out I have to pay for either 50MBS or 10MBS but my modem will only do 20MBS with TWC so I was thinking about a more cost-effective solution.

Low and behold, FIOS wants $80 as a “set up charge.” I do this stuff for a living so that’s $80 to put my MAC address into a whitelist somewhere? Seriously? But they said they’d waive that. The other kicker was $200 for a router, unless I want to rent one for $10/month (and there goes the savings).

So I’ll stick with TWC for a while longer. Unless anyone knows if RCN has become a more reliable service than the last reviews I read show.

I had Comcast for about ten years and six years ago went to Verizon. I have much better Internet and more channels with Verizon.

I didn’t pay any extras for the first two years, but they do get you after. Those are the only options I have in my apt. Someone once put a dish out and all holy heck broke out,

Oh when the cable man. From Verizon came I had just moved from an upstairs flat to a downstairs one. I had pizza delivered for my friends that were helping me, and told the
Verizon guy to have a few slices too. :)

Looks like FR’s DNS record is still missing..

Either that or a whole gaggle of UT’ers are really sleeping in.

With a lot of deep majik.

Or else wait it out..

Easiest for you would be to use FR’s ‘real’ id (its IP address) in place of ‘www.freerepublic.com’ in the address bar. The IP address is: 209.157.64.200

So, instead of “http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index"; to get to latest articles, use “http://209.157.64.200/tag/*/index";

What that does in effect is bypass the DNS name server(s) that are somehow FUBAR and gets you directly in.

I did something different here, but it involves rooting around in the guts of WinDoze and I don’t recommend it. Only reason I did so was because my machine is the gateway for all the machines on the home network and it was either one fix on my machine or everyone would need to do what I told you on each of their machines every time they went to FR.. (which would have caused me much grief and complaints from the female side.)
