Raqqa, Syria
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.
"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."
An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.
Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."
According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.
"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."
So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."
...except for those that used Lucas Electrics and those odd flannel gaskets that leaked oil persistently. Recycled cricket wear I'd guess. Oh, and the strange coarse Brillo pads used as air filters in SU carburetors. Good for stopping anything larger than pea gravel, which I gather was once a problem in the UK. All that said I still dearly miss my 1958 XK-150 roadster. :>(

The building I live in is pretty far back from the street, so I seldom hear much traffic. And since I have no windows that face the street, I don’t see the traffic, either.
It’s on a slight incline, so if ever I have trouble starting it, or run out of gas before payday, I can actually coast to the Rebel Station on the corner, down the hill. The slope is enough that I can roll right to the pump. ;o]
We don’t get much crime in this part of town. It’s mostly low income, and lower middle class income (in the homes around here) so it’s not prime territory for thieves. However, now that my car insurance has been lowered, I’m going to get renter’s insurance. I feel like I can’t afford not to.
How long has it been since you drove in LA? THOSE are crazy drivers!
We always had renter’s insurance, and I hope Anoreth does, too. It’s not much for replacement-cost coverage of the few items that are really valuable, or a new set of everything if the old stuff burns.

I have quilts, as I don’t care for comforters; most of them are synthetic fabrics and fillings, and with night sweats as bad as I have them, the cotton quilts allow a certain amount of evaporation.
I took the quilt off last month, but have a cotton blanket and the flannel sheets AND the heated mattress pad!

The deductible for the renter’s insurance is $1000, but it covers an awful lot of stuff that I’ve not seen on renter’s insurance in the past.
Personal injury, wind and hail, flood...good things to be insured against.
I’m sure, when I’ve had the insurance for a few years, I can have the policy changed to a lesser deductible.

I’d forgotten it came with a liability rider. Never hurts - anyone can be sued.
