ISIS Surrenders in face of Climate Change Conference

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.

"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."

An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.

Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."

According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.

"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."

So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."

North sides are not noted for sunlight and iris like sun. There's gotta be someone around you that has a shovel.. ;-)

The daffodils are the most plenteous among the few klingons from previous persons-on-the-property. There are a few tulips - mostly red but one interesting orange one, the crocus in various spots in the grass of the nominal east yard that I haven't seen this year, a lone peony, the hostas that are along the east side of that stone watering trough (the brown patch with some broken off flower stalks strewn about that will become one with the universe when visited by the little red ridingthing in mow mode), and a rose that finally succumbed to Rose Rosette disease after surviving being mowed repeatedly by previouspersons. It was a pretty 'old' rose something like this:

There is a similar one growing in the tree line on the nominal west property line. It was surrounded by a much more energetic wild white rose that I chopped out a while back (they were/are all over the place including the 'pasture'). Fortunately for the rose in question it was easy to spot what with its red blooms among all the white and thus didn't get chopped. I'm wary of trying to relocate it to a spot not shaded by maple but it is not really thriving, merely existing where it is.

And Tipton T. Longcat has given up on 'Lapcat Mode' and has relocated himself to the pillow previously owned by the late Roberta White..

Well, there was that explosion today at the National Zoo in washington DC today. A chlorine tank exoloded between the beaver and otter enclosures.

A very tense ceasefire is in effect while the field of battle is cleared.

If a neighbor has a shovel, s/he has probably forgotten where s/he put it. That happens a lot here. I’m thinking it may be a good idea to invest in some gardening-type implements so I can do a bit of digging and transplanting. Besides...I’m thinking about roses...

And that pic looks like a Rose of Sharon. But I may be wrong....

And there are some patches of violets in various places on the lawn, and I think I can bring some of them here. There is a flower bed along my east wall, so it would be fun to put some blooming things there, even if I move out of here. I will ponder these things and decide soon.

Rose of Sharon is commonly a reference to a hibiscus..

We have two of those which Mrs. NoC planted.

Most of the old roses (before the breeders got busy) were single bloomtypes such as in the previous photo.

On the subject of shovels, one of those GI trenching tools works especially if you're not trying to spade a garden, and is collapsible..

The Rose of Sharon is vastly different from the hibiscus. Much smaller and with more colors.

I now see how widely divided we are! Moss roses are succulent plants that CA uses to line the inclines of the CA freeways, especially in moist climates along the coast.

Would need to see a photo of what you are calling a Rose of Sharon then. The basic difference between an old rose and a wild rose is that the wild ones only bloom once..

That collection of all the worlds knowledge also called Wikipedia says "Rose of Sharon is a common name that has been applied to several different species of flowering plants that are valued in different parts of the world. It is also a biblical expression, though the identity of the plant referred to is also unclear, and is disputed by biblical scholars. In neither case does it refer to actual roses, although one of the species it refers to in modern usage is a member of Rosaceae."
