Raqqa, Syria
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.
"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."
An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.
Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."
According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.
"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."
So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."
It’s painful running up against those 00 posts, isn’t it.
Wait ... WHAT????
What? You talkin’ a me?
It was just SITTIN’ there, I tell ya! Just SITTIN’!
I hadda do it!
G’night. :)
*smooch*
I’m settled in at my weekend escape location. I will probably go to bed early, but not yet.
YAY!!! I hope you spend an absolutely wonderfully quiet time there!
XOXO
Text me and give me incentive to do the same thing...if I had the money for meals, I would head for Mesquite to the casino my BIL works at. I’m sure it would bring me a lot of peace!
Actually, I'm in Pennsylvania again. For a couple more days.
Odd how even marital accords can sometimes result in a two-state solution.
BONK..
My lap was promptly greeted by a Sockscat who just had his morsel (the result of his hunting prowess) absconded with by the Tomtom. At least he was smart enough to realize he would lose that battle if there was a confrontation - he dropped the morsel and ran indoors.
He is now seeking reassurance of his furry worth. While Tomtom disappeared with the rodentmorsel, eschewing the plebeian food on the plate on the porch.
Then from behind me I hear sounds similar to BONK only not so energetic and more continuous (actually more like ploink plonk ploink). I turn to view the source and find the Tipton T. Longcat walking on my keyboard. (Not the one that says ‘Microsoft’, the one that says ‘Roland’. One of those two is considerably more expensive than the other...) One of these days I’ll leave it on and plugged into speakers (instead of headphones) set to the most terrible synth sound imaginable and wait for a furry keywalker.
You have interesting cats!
I could have gone to South Carolina.
Not sure we have ever had a just-plain-ordinary cat. Although we did have Just Plain Tigger... I gave him to my Dad.
We opened the front door and shoved J. P. inside Parent’s house. Next I hear my Mom yelling my name followed by ‘Get this cat out of here before your Father sees it.’ (Dad was the catperson. Mom not so much. ;-) Of course, J. P. Tigger walked in, scoped out the situation, and promptly walked over to Dad (who was napping in his chair), hopped up in his lap, and curled up for a catnap.
Needless to say, J. P. Tigger had found his forever home.
My father gave his parents an elderly Siamese.
Other than driving through on I-95 on the way to or from FL when my in-laws were alive, the only time I spent in North Carolina was wandering around Charlotte airport before deplane took off for Atlanta..
Eastern Airlines was still alive back then.
I spent some time in North Carolina. It was there that I met a most interesting and dynamic military person.
“I see you looking up at a threatening sky. Do not be concerned about the possibility of rain. — I did not order any rain for today’s training.”
Charlotte airport is nice now.
Actually don’t remember much about it other than it was a stopover. Must have been around Feb of 1972 or thereabouts..
I’ve been in the Atlanta airport exactly four times as many times as I’ve been in Charlotte..
I’ve driven through North Carolina more than I’ve flown over it.
I’ve gone down a few times in early Spring. That makes Spring arrive in a single day. Very nice time-lapse viewing of shrubberies bursting into blossom.

I'm thinking of giving them to Bernie supporters.
The moment one of the world's most famous locomotives, the Flying Scotsman, set off from London King's Cross station this morning. It is due to arrive on Platform 9 at York station at 1220.
They talk about 'listening to it' but the BBC talking yaps don't shut up so you can..
Assume this is the same run, but don't see a date.
Of course one of those newfangled trains gets in the way of the camera..
And where are all those greenweenies protesting that evil coal smoke? (Probably a good thing they didn't make an appearance. Considering how many railfans were about, the weenies might have accidentally, um, fallen on the tracks unobserved..)
