Raqqa, Syria
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.
"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."
An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.
Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."
According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.
"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."
So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."
We’ll find a time. It isn’t hard.
ANY possibility you’ve just got lint built up in the inner works of the mouse wheel? I had that happen to me very recently; I’d go to scroll using the wheel, which also serves as the middle mouse button, and the slight pressure required to spin the wheel would click the button, and it would stick in that position. Next thing I know, instead of scrolling, I’m closing tabs on my browser, and sending email to the Trash... No bueno!
So, I opened up my mouse (Logitech TrackMan Wheel, actually — CRIME they don’t make ‘em anymore), and there was lint gumming up the vertical guides the wheel travels down and up in, and all over the return spring. Once I cleaned that caked up fuzz out, and put it back together, it worked like new, again.
Good morning TC...sleet, rain, and sunshine yesterday, warmed up to nudge 45. Snow melt from blizzard has saturated soil so much that some trees need regular eyeballing.

Morning, TC.
We haz Cold and Wet. Together.
Yesterday was one of those slow but permanently occupied days.

UFOs or Snow? :)
In these parts it is snow and Unidentified Foreign Organisms.
For these little guys, the target is the Kzin mothership signaling the start of another Kzin-Man war.
Morning/afternoon, gents. 38F here, headed for 58, with Sunbeam.
I’m reading “The Righteous Mind,” by Jonathan Haidt. It contains many cheerful facts about psychology and is quite a page-turner, although too heavy to carry on the elliptical trainer.
I don’t know Hk.. I don’t have much in my house that is linty, and since I scrub the mouse pad periodically there isn’t much lint around.
I don’t know, if I took it apart, that I could get it put back together properly, and that would be a waste of someone’s good money.
So I will work on other things first, at least until I have the money to go get a new mouse. That probably won’t be until payday, which is still two weeks away.
Whenever you’re ready. I have more free time than you, so it doesn’t matter to me. I usually go outside around 0930 to 1100 PST, but other than that, my time is your time.
Ah cain’t see enny squee faces!!
Sounds good...so you have the doorstop edition....is it available in osmotic version?
Amazon.com shows a Kindle version available as well as audio, and my local library has an audio download listed.
excellent! Thanks for the tip. Tome tonnage at my abode is close to yellow alert....shiver at the thought of tallying linear footage of book shelves... shiver even more at the prospect of culling the herd.
Thanks! That’s bursting with squee!!! <3
cute little hipster beard there....
I sympathize. We have a fixed number of bookshelves, and when the books exceed the space, we bite the bullet and box some up for trade at The Book Lady, with anything she won’t take going to the library.
DP gets e-books from Amazon, and I get doorstop versions from the library.
Saturday we went out in bone-chilling weather (high of 9, wind chills below 0) to find homeless people. (My daughter encountered a woman with no shoes on her feet who just would not talk with them about coming to get a meal and some clothing items.)
Today our high will be 42.
Glad to see the warming Glow Bull is back in town.
