Raqqa, Syria
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.
"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."
An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.
Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."
According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.
"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."
So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."

As it appeared yesterday, we are right on the dripping edge of this global warming event. A couple of degrees one way, and it will all be gone 24 hours from now. A couple of degrees the other, and we’ll be under sheet ice.

I just came in from the Meeting of the Mindless, at the ramada, and I know I’m coming down with something. My nose hasn’t stopped running since I went outside an hour ago. I hate when that happens.
I hope Bill gets home OK. We’re expecting rain over the next two days, and more snow predicted for Mt. Charleston. I love seeing the snow!

And when umbrellas were invented, they used those, too. I think early predictions of the weather is where The Old Farmer’s Almanac came into play. I can remember my folks always had the latest copy, when my dad had an active, very large garden.
There was a meeting yesterday, but since it was at 1400, I didn’t go. However, the Dependable Charlie was there, so he was my eyes and ears. He said the preparations for the move-outs will be beginning “in a few months.” I don’t know what that means in authority-speak, but it doesn’t sound good.
So I’m contemplating maybe buying a house. There are several programs in Clark County that are available for low-income buyers, so I’m going to start checking them out. At first, I was stymied by the $1500 required for the one program I was interested in, but there may be another program that only requires $500 in earnest money.
In the meantime, I’m going to take an online course, and talk to one of the church members who is a real estate agent. I’ve known him at least eight years, and he is pretty cool.
I just don’t want to move more that once, and I DON’T want to move to the ghetto, which is most likely where they will try to place most of us.
