Explanation: The setting is San Francisco Bay, the time is sunset, and the bridge is the Golden Gate. What you are about to see is an unexpected double sunset ending with a rare green flash. Watch closely -- in the recorded time-lapse sequence, unusually warm air created by bridge traffic refracts sunlight toward the Earth, causing a superior image of the top of the Sun to form. This image will disappear -- marking the first "sunset" -- only after the main image has dipped below the deck. All the while, boats pass in the foreground, cars pass over the bridge, and clouds reflecting sunlight drift by in the distance. The scene ends with Earth's turbulent atmosphere itself creating a path that only higher-energy visible sunlight can traverse, making the last glimpse of our home star appear to flash green.

Very cool that that was caught on camera- I do photography and had known about this- it’s a very rare event to capture it on film because it happens very quickly
It’s a phenomena that not many are actually aware of
For more info and photos, here’s a link

From the link
What makes a green flash? The green flash is the result of looking at the sun through a greater and greater thickness of atmosphere as you look lower and lower in the sky. Water vapor in the atmosphere absorbs the yellow and orange colors in white sunlight, and air molecules scatter the violet light. That leaves the red and blue-green light to travel directly toward you. Near the horizon, the sunâs light is highly bent or refracted. Itâs as though there are two suns â a red one and a blue-green one â partially covering each other. The red one is always closest to the horizon, so when it sets or before it rises, you see only the blue-green disk â the green flash.
Thanks Bob434.
Thanks!
The single time in my life that I saw the green flash was from a car while crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. Very memorable.
Before this video, I would have said I've never seen the "green flash". I have been expecting a great flash of light, not a fleeting green image of the last arm of the sun, so I will save this link to show to guests what the "green flash" really is. This is also the first time I've seen a legitimate explanation of what the "green flash" is, so thanks, again.
Yuo’re welcome- there is a term for this phenomena but I can’t remember what it’/s called- there’s another rarer event that produces a different color right at sunset too if I remember right- but can’t remember well enough to even look it up lol-
:’) Martians mooning Earth would do it too. ;’)
