Most Americans have heard of the case of DB Cooper, who is accused of pulling off the only plane hijacking in the history of the United States that has never been solved.
Now, 44 years after the brazen air heist, a Michigan author has put forward a new theory linking the mystery of DB Cooper to an obscure missing person case involving a married father of four who vanished two years before the skyjacking and was never heard from again.
Over the years, the facts of the skyjacking history have become the stuff of legends: on November 24, 1971, a man known by the name Dan Cooper bought a ticket at Portland International Airport in Oregon and boarded a Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 to Seattle, Washington.
Author Ross Richardson suggested in his 2014 book 'Still Missing' DB Cooper may be missing Michigan man Richard Lepsy.

I was 21 years old, driving from my Seattle job to home about 25 miles south listening to the reports on the radio..in a rainstorm
Newbies.
These types of stories are always fun to read. Many of the facial features are uncannily similar in the Cooper drawing and the suspect’s photo.
Perhaps the notion of searching in tree tops would be a good idea after all:

Medieval Skeleton Tree Unveils Hidden Mystery After Researchers Conducted Radiocarbon Dating
Sep, 17, 2015
A medieval skeleton tree unveils a hidden mystery after it was found by a private property in the town of Collooney in County Sligo, Ireland. Archaeologists have unearthed startling details after dating the body from an era between between 1030 and 1200 AD, according to FOX News.
The medieval skeleton was found inside the roots that were upturned, tangled in wreckage that shocked its landowner. The tree was then investigated by Irelandââ¬â¢s National Monuments Service that called in Sligo-Leitrim Archaeological Services, an archaeological consultancy, to investigate with an aim of preserving the remains.
Sligo-Leitrim shared the story of the find, its first project, last week. While the roots are about 215 years old, but the body turned out to be much older.

I was in the Army, out of the country around that time and really didn’t catch much fresh news. Even in those days, I’ll bet you, being in the N/W, caught the news wall-wall.
DB Cooper impaled onto tree branches.
Well, it was a staircase, and as I recall, it was in fact eliminated, or sealed ... whatever ... in response to this incident.
Is that pic from Fangorn Forest?
Richard McCoy, Jr.
Richard Floyd McCoy, Jr. (December 7, 1942 - November 9, 1974) was an American aircraft hijacker. McCoy hijacked a United Airlines passenger jet for ransom in 1972. Due to a similar modus operandi, law enforcement officials named McCoy as a suspect for the still-unidentified "D. B. Cooper," who committed his unsolved crime four months before McCoy.
Oh! There is a resemblance.
Richard Floyd McCoy, Jr. was subsequently sentenced to a term of 45 years. From this article, it appears he died in prison:

Thanks Laz.
I know you’re waiting for it.
“as Gd as my witness I swear I thought turkeys could fly!”
A weather vane latch was added to the aft air stair on all 727 aircraft which prevented its deployment during flight.
From the link at 32, # McCoy didn't die in prison.
Convicted of the 1972 crime, Richard McCoy busted out of jail in August 1974 and was killed three months later in an FBI shootout.
Something tells me he’s the real McCoy.
>> A weather vane latch was added to the aft air stair ... “
Yup - we called it the “Cooper Valve”.
January for me you young whipper-snapper.
Hate to pick nits (nah, not really) but he wasn’t D.B. Cooper. He was D. Cooper on the passenger manifest. Sloppy reporting got the “B” stuck in there somehow.
Nope ... saw the Movie, they don’t even look alike
Boy, he really DOES look like him!!
