LOS ANGELES >> U.S. Customs officials seized 450 illegal pork tamales from a passenger coming through LAX from Mexico earlier this month.

"Although tamales are a popular holiday tradition, foreign meat products can carry serious animal diseases from countries affected by outbreaks of Avian Influenza, Mad Cow and Swine Fever," said Anne Maricich, CBP Acting Director of Field Operations in Los Angeles in a written statement. "Every day CBP agriculture specialists prevent the intentional and unintentional introduction of harmful pests and foreign animal diseases into the U.S."

These tamales would make ideal staples for our new guests.

You are right. Good tamales are hard to find. Very few Mexican restaurants in Southern California have them on the menu. The masa (corn meal dough) must be made by hand daily and the tamales served fresh. Eating old pork tamales flown in from Mexico city gives new meaning to “making a run” for the border.

Not Halal?

A large number of the food carts today in New York City these days serve that disgusting looking, smelling, and tasting Muslim Halal crap. I would never have even thought of buying or eating this garbage until one night, about 3 in the morning when there was nothing else in the area, gave it a shot. Big mistake. It actually tasted worse than it smelled. Never again will I even consider it.

"Halal (Arabic: 'permissible'), also spelled hallal or halaal is any object or an action which is permissible to use or engage in, according to Islamic law. The term covers and designates not only food and drink but also all matters of daily life.[1]

It is one of five (al-ahkam al-khamsah)-fard (compulsory), mustahabb (recommended), halal (allowed), makruh (disliked), haram (forbidden)-that define the morality of human action in Islam.[2] Mubah is also used to mean "permissible" or "allowed" in Islam."

IIRC, tamales are a traditional New years meal.

For decades you couldn’t get real prosciutto di palma into this country. Not legally anyway.

So, the Federal Government can find and deport 450 "illegal" tamales, but they can't find 11,000,000+ ILLEGAL ALIENS and deport them?

Wait for it, it gets worse!

Same Federal Government now wants to bring in tens of thousands of Syrian "refugees" (read that: MUSLIM INVADERS) and says they'll be "fully vetted" so there's no need to worry about TERRORISTS.

Am I the only one who's head is spinning at the outrageous LIES this Government tries telling us on a daily basis?!

I’ve noticed that tamales served at Mexican restaurants are generally not good. It seems like that is one item on the menu that you can tell has been made elsewhere and defrosted. But I once lived in a neighborhood in California where a tamale truck, which announced its visit with a funny sounding horn, would sell excellent tamales that came wrapped in corn leaves.

I keep picturing the scene from "Goodfellas" where Frenchy, Henry, and Jimmy discuss the Air France heist:

HENRY: "Tell him what you told me"

FRENCHY: "Big score coming in in from Air Mexico. If I'm right, there could be 400 - 450 pork tamales coming in. It's totally, totally untraceable."

How sad. What a loss for the country.

Just imagine the contribution these illegal tamales could have give to society!

All sorts of new stomach and intestinal conditions we could learn about!

for shame! Let those tamales go!

heh

There were some news stories a few years ago about a stockbroker who died after he tried to "surf" on top of his moving car. The stories claimed that this all happened because of a brain parasite he got from eating street food on a trip to Mexico.

But when I looked this up just now I found that despite a thorough examination, the medical examiner found no evidence of a brain parasite.

The Mystery Deepens

So tell me, Government Spokeshole, what exactly is prevented by blocking someone bringing in a pre-cooked presumably refrigerated food product? Do you somehow suspect that they'll be feeding tamales to pigs? 450 tamales; someone went through a lot of effort and thought in creating and then transporting such a holiday treat. If people they know choose to take on any such health risks in consuming such handmade product, that is their problem.

Honestly, this just sounds like a CYA - you thought you caught yet another drug mule, but it turns out the dog was just hungry for some good home cooking.
