comScore Reports September 2015 U.S. Smartphone Subscriber Market Share

LG Grows Its Smartphone Market Share to Nearly 10%

RESTON, VA, November 6, 2015 -- comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a global media measurement and analytics company, today released data from comScore MobiLens and Mobile Metrix, reporting key trends in the U.S. smartphone industry for September 2015. Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 43.6 percent OEM market share, while Google Android led as the #1 smartphone platform with 52.3 percent platform market share. Facebook ranked as the top individual smartphone app.

Smartphone OEM Market Share
192.4 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (77.4 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in September. Apple ranked as the top OEM with 43.6 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers. Samsung ranked second with 27.6 percent market share, followed by LG with 9.4 percent (up 1.1 percentage points from June), Motorola with 4.8 percent and HTC with 3.3 percent.

Android ranked as the top smartphone platform in September with 52.3 percent market share (up 0.7 percentage points from June), followed by Apple with 43.6 percent, Microsoft with 2.9 percent, BlackBerry with 1.2 percent and Symbian with 0.1 percent.

This entity, now under the new name, is referring to Apple's native music app, which captures all music activity within that app, including listening via the streaming service, radio service and users' personally downloaded music libraries.

I don’t own, nor can I afford, a Smartphone. I work THREE JOBS. Can you post the data that shows what percentage of my Tax Dollars go towards the non-producers who DO have Smartphones at MY expense?

I would probably still have my bag phone (early adopter, I was) if I could still make calls on it. I upgraded to an LG flip phone way back when they killed analog. I don't have any of the top 15 apps and somehow I get by...

comScore releases last quarter's (through September 15th) smartphone market share in the US based on carrier's subscriptions. Android still leads and even gains a bit with 52.3%, while Apple iPhones dropped a half percentage point as users waited for the new models to come out to 43.6%. Apple iPhones are still holding the largest market share among manufacturers at the same 43.6%, followed by Samsung with a loss of 0.5% at 27.6%, while LG showed a 1.1% gain during the quarter at 9.4%, the only manufacturer that gained market share. -- PING!

I don't think anyone knows. . . a cellular phone is now considered a necessity and Obamaphones are provided as a matter of course in many states. I've never seen it reported as a line item in any budget. Too bad. It would be useful to know.

I used to know a guy that had 3 Obamaphones. They had limited data, and when he ran out of time on one, he just grabbed another.
