But based on the excavated evidence, the citys Bronze Age heyday seems to have nevertheless come to a sudden, inexplicable end toward the end of the Middle Bronze Ageand the ancient city became a relative wasteland for 700 years, for the most part void of human habitation. The comparatively paltry or lack of Late Bronze Age material is a testament to this, with the same pattern shown in the smaller, nearby sites. A strange development, thinks Collins, for a great city-state that flourished even through the catastrophic climate changes that arguably led to the collapse of the great cities of the Levantine Early Bronze Age around 2350 BCE. Collins is hoping that further research and excavation may shed more light on this mystery.

“....flourished even through the..(wait for it)... catastrophic climate changes”
Catastrophic climate changes? Catastrophic climate changes?
Wow, I really didn’t realize that the ancients had SUV’s and
coal fired hydroelectric plants. Huh, you learn something new every day.

I used the NIV in BSF and I read a NKJ afterwards, but I have now found the ESV text flows easier and it is clearer and less open to misinterpretation than the Nearly Inspired Version.

Yes, the NIV is not actually a true translation, but employs a technique called 'dynamic equivalency', which is a fancy way of saying that the authors remade the original meaning into what they thought people could better understand and apply.
I am in leadership at my local church, which uses the NIV as the pew Bible, and the ESV will replace it when the time comes.

Wow. All that destruction just because the people of Sodom didn’t practice hospitality. (/sarcasm)

You beat me to the “climate change” response.
You have to wonder if vehicles, factory emissions and other manufactured pollutants in the atmosphere caused the “killer” climate change back then.
Then, on second thought......na!
It didn’t cause it back then and it isn’t causing it today.

It wasn’t Sodom that we don’t remember. It was Gomorrah.
I don’t even want to know!

Studying under Dr. Collins for my masters. The stuff they are finding is flat out amazing. Specifically, they are now looking at several craters scattered throughout Jordan as the possible remains of a bolide catalyst for the airburst over Tall el-Hammam.
