Who Are You Calling a Honky? Gaffe-Prone Fuji TV Stumbles Again

July 29—Internet users were snorting in derision after participants on a Fuji TV entertainment show wore T-shirts with a bizarre English slogan incorporating a word that some Caucasians might find offensive.

The shirts read: “No Fun No TV Do Honky.” The overall phrase left viewers baffled, while the word “honky” has racial connotations.

The T-shirts were worn by individuals such as comedians and presenters taking part in a marathon entertainment show that aired Saturday through Sunday.

Japanese is full of silly English, profane or otherwise, all the heck over the place - shop names, restaurant menus, advertisements, and especially clothing. Some dipshit at the Washington Times got a line on the TV show from someone and decided to run with with it, not knowing the first thing about Japan.

Well, it looks like the article was written by a Japanese guy, but certainly he tried to fit it into an American vibe. No one in America watches Fuji TV, and no one in Japan cares what kind of clothes they wear on TV.
