Please tell me if you think Netflix's basic service is worthwhile. If you have it, do you regret it or recommend it? I know they have plenty of movies, but do they stream any current TV shows after they air on cable (say next day, or something like that)?

“Longmire will be on with new episodes starting next month. Mrs p6 and I are fans so it’s worth it for us just for that!”

And Longmire is the reason why I am considering getting Netflix. I cut the cable a while ago. After all when I heard Longmire was cancelled that was one less reason to have cable! A few days ago I saw online that not only has Netflix produced a new season of Longmire, but a user can binge watch ten episodes in one day on Sept. 10. (I jokingly told my boss I would not be in that day! He and his family are fans of the show so he just chuckled.)

$8/month for unlimited streaming. Absolutely.

I watch a lot of the older TV series I missed when they originally aired.

No commercials.

They also have a fair amount of British and Aussie and Canadian programs/movies.

I was originally a member of their DVDs, but with postal changes and Netflix changes I dropped that in lieu of the streaming only.

I usually have about 100-150 titles queued that I eventually get around to watching. Some months they have significantly more new titles than other months.

I usually watch more via Netflix than via my cable subscription.

I think Netflix is a good value.

If you’re looking at cord cutting, consider Netflix or Amazon Prime along with Hulu. Netflix and Amazon are generally a season behind whereas Hulu often runs episodes soon after they air depending on their agreement with the network.

I like some of the old classics. The other day 2 movies came to mind, Key Largo and West World. When I searched for them it said availability unknown but I put them both in my que anyway. About 40 days later they both showed up and the DVD’s were brand new, no prints or scratches. I was surprised at that.

Instantwatcher.com is a good source to search and keep up with new Netflix and Amazon titles and also search for specific movies/tv programs:

yes it is, except they don’t have as many movies as I would like

It should grow as they get more popular, and it hasn’t

I like it, but I am starting to look at other things, because I feel like it is the same stuff all the time.

It’s like when HBO was new.. after a while you only saw the same movies over and over again- then they came out with multiple channels, and that became the same thing over and over..

Netflix should expand A LOT or i am going to cancel and try somethign else

For $7 a month is is worth it even if you only see one new movie a month

For 8 bucks it’s allright.
If you have a slow DSL it may not work well enough.

Everything is on the net for free if you want though.

Fabulous safe, legal source for great old TV and movies: http://free-classic-tv-shows.com/

We dumped our 200+ channel cable in favor of Netflix via ROKU.

We only watch a max of 2 - 3 hours of TV per day, sometimes none. Netflix fills that need, and there are other channels on ROKU that work for us.

What I miss is live news, like to catch the Trump events, and Turner Classic.

I have netflix and huluplus. Hulu has current shows, but not all of them. I also have amazon prime. I like prime for movies and free shipping, but I have noticed that some tv shows are free for the first year, and then after that they want 2.99 per episode. I always check first on amazon prime if the remaining years are free.

Daredevil IS amazing, but not your typical comic book fare...some violent scenes not for the squeamish.

NONE OF THEM ARE !!!

If you can afford it, you're working and when you get home you want to get laid, not watch a movie

And you'll fall asleep before it's done anyway

netflix is good, but only for a period of time dictated by your watching habits. Once you’ve gone through most of the shows you watch you’ll use it less and less.

The British TV sub-genre is excellent if you like BBC shows.

My chief gripe is material isn’t added fast enough and old material gets magically recycled into new. So they have a loose interpretation of new.

Amazon prime is the same.

Subscribed to Netflix earlier this year. We'll worth it. I still have cable, but only for local channels primarily for the local weather forecast.

Netflix has a rather good library of mainstream movies and shows plus its own original series. The latter is worth checking out. I've become a fan of one series, Orange Is The New Black. Be aware though that these series do have coarse language and plenty of “adult” situations and themes. However, unlike most of the pornography that passes for the usual TV shows, these series are well written, acted, directed and cast. They have coherent plots and characters you can care about.

If you have children in the house, I believe that they can have their own separate profile that will bring them movies and shows geared for them, while keeping your children out of your more adult fare.

One other thing: There is a good library of documentaries. For example, I am interested in World War II and the Nazis, and I just watched one such documentary that probed Hitler's mental illness and how it developed. Fascinating.

Prices may vary, but here it's $8 a month. Well worth the price, IMO.

It’s very much worth the few dollars we spend each month. We actually get our money’s worth, unlike cable where we were watching maybe a dozen or so channels but paying for over a hundred.
