Mozilla blocked Flash by default in its Firefox browser late Monday night, a day after Facebook's (FB, Tech30) security chief called for Adobe to kill Flash once and for all.
The Flash-bashing picked up last week after revelations that the spyware giant known as the Hacking Team had been using Flash to remotely take over people's computers and infect them with malware. (That discovery took place after the Hacking Team was itself hacked. Documents revealed in the breach showed that the Hacking Team exploited two critical vulnerabilities in Flash's code.)
"It is time for Adobe to announce the end-of-life date for Flash," tweeted Facebook security chief Alex Stamos on Sunday.
Mozilla's support chief Mark Schmidt quickly followed suit by tweeting that all versions of Flash had been turned off in Firefox.

Every time Flash runs my browsers get on their knees and crawl. Garbage Flash.
I know you’re joking, but I have put electrical tape over every laptop and phone-camera lens in my possession.
I used to do tech for a large company- every once in a while someone would bring in a laptop for repair, and there'd be a piece of tape over the ambient light sensor.
I don't embarrass my users if I can help it, but I do ask why the sensor is covered up. :-)
Some sites crash Flash. Flash crashes all the time when I’m trying to watch something on Youtube.

I had it installed because some things I need to see say it requires Flash.
Any alternatives the way you see it, or is it Flash or nothing?
Maybe because the ambient light adjustment is annoying and covering the sensor is a fast/easy way to “disable” it.
I finally had it with my browser locking up and going unresponsive [and whiting out like a cataract over the whole screen] and used my QuickJava toolbar button to kill the Flash. The Adobe site says Flash is not installed or is disabled. So far all OK. We shall see!
Nope- every user I’ve asked so far has admitted that they thought it was a camera.
I’ve got an older XP system that it locks up Google Chrome.
I don’t understand why any company would use flash on their web site. By doing so they are eliminating a significant % of their potential customers, me for one as I do most of my shopping on my iPhone.

I play the daily games on Shockwave, which uses Flash. It was blocked on Firefox, but I was given the option to open it, so I can still play my games. They’re the only ones I bother with.
I was having problems with Flash on Shockwave. Some of the games weren’t loading, and Adobe Flash would crash. My son put more RAM in my laptop for me, and I haven’t had a problem since.
I am not a tech expert so any advice from me should be taken with a very large dose of salt. That said, I would point out that XP is pretty old and a lot of newer stuff is likely to run slowly on it. You could take it to a tech or computer repair guy and see what they think. But one possible solution would be to just upgrade to something a little newer.
I am assuming you have, and periodically run an up-to-date anti-virus program.
