Mozilla blocked Flash by default in its Firefox browser late Monday night, a day after Facebook's (FB, Tech30) security chief called for Adobe to kill Flash once and for all.
The Flash-bashing picked up last week after revelations that the spyware giant known as the Hacking Team had been using Flash to remotely take over people's computers and infect them with malware. (That discovery took place after the Hacking Team was itself hacked. Documents revealed in the breach showed that the Hacking Team exploited two critical vulnerabilities in Flash's code.)
"It is time for Adobe to announce the end-of-life date for Flash," tweeted Facebook security chief Alex Stamos on Sunday.
Mozilla's support chief Mark Schmidt quickly followed suit by tweeting that all versions of Flash had been turned off in Firefox.

I can live without Flash.
Somebody’s got to come up with a secure alternative. I know entire companies built on Flash...such as KixEye
Some programs use flash as part of the user interface. It’s a big pain in the arse.
Do appreciate the final nudge to disengage from AF. Thnx. R2z
What’s wrong with Flash? Other than there is another update every fifteen minutes.
Adobe requires that you download their latest patch to access this thread.
So those of us who use Flash are SOOL?
There are games my kids play plus some of the webcams I visit use it IIRC. The one in Golden Heart Plaza Fairbanks might be one or that may be Java. No matter, lots of stuff I have used for years just plain doesn’t work.
Chrome has been warning me all day about flash update. Unfortunately, I am on my work laptop and can’t upgrade without involving IT and endless red tape.
It’s called HTML5. Flash is outdated and has been for years.
I have not used flash for over a year.
Have you checked properties to see if the web cam control is approved for remote access?
;>)
Yeah, been noticing that since I installed the latest version of FireFox a few days ago. They’re blocking everything that uses adobe flash.
Thank God! That thing has been nothing but a giant pain in the @$$ for ages. Constant computer slowdowns and even outright freezing of the browser.
BFL
They must have changed their mind because after a plugin fix, Flash is working on Firefox as of now.
Some sites don’t work properly without adobe flash especially on android devices.
I have Fire Fox and for many months now it will take up to a half hour or more to connect to the internet at start up in the mornings and I get lots of Unresponsive Script Errors that contain a reference to Chrome.
I've reinstalled Fire Fox, I've increased the script run time, and nothing has worked. It's driving me nuts.
As a side note, when I go to a linked website from here to view a video, it takes forever for the video to load...with the exception of Youtube......
I'm still on Windows XP if that makes any difference
I thought the biggest question is...WHY are people still using Firefox: the same browser which ousted the conservative co-founders of the browser after he came out against faggot marriage?
Every time Flash runs my browsers get on their knees and crawl. Garbage Flash.
