Constant computer slowdowns and even outright freezing of the browser.

I have Fire Fox and for many months now it will take up to a half hour or more to connect to the internet at start up in the mornings and I get lots of Unresponsive Script Errors that contain a reference to Chrome.

I've reinstalled Fire Fox, I've increased the script run time, and nothing has worked. It's driving me nuts.

As a side note, when I go to a linked website from here to view a video, it takes forever for the video to load...with the exception of Youtube......

I'm still on Windows XP if that makes any difference

I am not a tech expert so any advice from me should be taken with a very large dose of salt. That said, I would point out that XP is pretty old and a lot of newer stuff is likely to run slowly on it. You could take it to a tech or computer repair guy and see what they think. But one possible solution would be to just upgrade to something a little newer.

I am assuming you have, and periodically run an up-to-date anti-virus program.

You may have a faulty add-on. To see if that's the case, open the Add-ons Manager and disable them all. If that fixes your problem, then go back to the add-ons page and selectively re-enable them until you discover which one is causing the problem.

BTW, "chrome" in this context refers to the user interface elements of the Firefox browser (menus and toolbars, etc., standing outside of the content window), not to the Chrome browser.

I think it does.

I had similar problems with XP on the laptop and desktop. If I tried to run a couple of video streams, it would stammer and take forever.

My XP desktop had a hard drive crash. I replaced it with a Win7 and those problems went away. XP can only use 2 GB of memory. Many of the new graphics/video intensive websites need more. Most Win7 machines start with 4 GB minimum. I have 8 GB on both the laptop and desktop.

Youtube is now using HTML5 for all new content and all but the oldest videos.
