I read the headline over at the Washington Post (via Newsalert) and I can’t say I was surprised:
The average American woman weighs 166.2 pounds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As reddit recently pointed out, that’s almost exactly as much as the average American man weighed in the early 1960s.
Men, you’re not looking too hot in this scenario either. Over the same time period you gained nearly 30 pounds, from 166.3 in the 60s to 195.5 today. Doing the same comparison as above, today’s American man weighs almost as much as 1.5 American women from the 1960s. At 195.5 pounds, put five American guys in a room and you’ve gathered roughly half a ton of manhood.
Overall weight gain since 1960 is slightly greater for women (18.5 percent) than for men (17.6 percent). And both sexes have gained roughly an inch in height over the same period, which accounts for some of that weight gain.
Maybe the weight is seen as unsightly by some, but on average, those who are overweight but not obese might be healthier. I imagine it matters how much one weighs in proportion to height and if the person is active and healthy vs. overweight and sedentary. I must admit that at five foot six, if I weighed 166, I would be a mess. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), I can’t carry that kind of weight but some women can.

it’s incredible with fish!! I eat more than a decent amount and still all that weight this month.
I’ll even chomp on 3 ounces of salmon late if I’m hungry.
Salmon steak, shark steak, tuna steak, all great.
I didn’t like catfish though.
I still weigh what I did in high school...same height too...5’2 110-112 lbs....but I was ill for a time and could do nothing but sit and eat so shot up to 135 lbs. Once I could move around again the weight dropped off in no time.
So for me being stationary and feeding my mouth was what brought the weight on.
Did you note she’s smiling.....I think some people can’t see what the rest of us see when they literally go overboard like her.
Well since it’s working with fish go for it!
Something else she noted from eating protein....her level of energy increased pretty dramatically. Have you noted that yet?
WTF? Whatever happened to fat shaming?
FYI
I haven’t noticed that much, but overall I feel better, definitely.
It’s those ghosts of burgers, pizzas and chinese food past calling to you that makes it hard. It’s like an addiction. But it gets easier the longer you stay away.
A working woman today on average still only weighs 74% of what a working man does.
>> Yeah, well, thats all muscle!
The ads WORKED!
A physician said once that people mistake being hungry when it's actually their system is deficient in a vitamin or mineral....so they're reading their body wrong.
I also do a protein shake every day...if I go two days without I want to devour everything that's sweet...candy pastries etc.
PLEASE ....
Tell me that’s a photoshop job ...
I’ll bet you can fit two Mark O’Malley’s into one Hillary Pantsuit.
That’s interesting. Hate veggies and definitely lack vitamins and nutrients. could be causing the hunger. Thanks.
From an evolutionary viewpoint, it doesn’t make sense for a human to be repulsed by the smell and taste of such healthy foods as vegetables.
It also doesn’t make sense that the human hasn’t evolved to where are not nearly as hungry after becoming massively overweight. But i guess the body cries for nutrients no matter what weight.
You could spend a day at Neiman Marcus and find the same amount of overweight women.
FYI, the camera does funny things to people’s proportions. As a result, Hollyweird tends to prefer tiny, anorexic people.
As you’ve heard, “the camera adds 10 pounds”.
This is how we get actors like Tom Cruise, etc.
That’s right...the body isn’t satisfied without the nutrients it requires....so hunger can be “read” wrong that they need to fill the stomach when in fact they need to nourish themselves.
When you take a vitamin/mineral supplement you’ll find cravings will cease as well. It is pretty amazing....but I found it to be true for me.
My cravings seem to be wired for pastries....I don’t eat sweets much at all and sugar intake little...not by choice I just like other “snacks” better. .....I’m a cheese lover so a handful of grapes with cheese and crackers hits the spot for a snack...frozen ones in the summer especially!
So it’s usually food items I eat rather then snacks...I’ll even make french fries or cook bacon to snack on because it’s rare I have them with meals.
makes french fries? cool. i love cheddar cheese.
No I don’t put cheese on the fries... maybe a little vinegar and salt....or sweetened ketchup for a dip.
BTW All the cheese I eat is white...never orange....they are far too processed that I can actually taste the chemicals! Same with many of the snack foods today....they put so much junk in them you can taste it.
