My dental health is something I have always taken seriously and as a gadget fan, Ive spent hundreds of pounds on the latest high-tech electronic toothbrushes and expensive toothpastes, gels and mouthwashes.
But then I had to go without brushing my teeth for a fortnight.
This was for a new two-part series on dental health for the BBC, and what we discovered was truly eye-opening, with implications not just for me, but for all of us.
My wife was anything but keen on the no-brushing experiment and there was a lot less kissing during that fortnight. And she was right to be worried about the outcome.
For two weeks, I wore a gum guard on one side of my mouth whenever I brushed my teeth, so that side didnt get cleaned.
At the end of this time, I brushed my teeth without the gum guard on and my gums bled a bit and there was pink, blood- spattered spit in the bathroom washbowl. I had developed mild gum disease. Carry on like this and not treat the problem and I could theoretically lose some teeth.

Trust me, all of these remedies have been researched. . . and they went no where. "Oil Pulling" did nothing. . . except provide a palliative coating on the bleeding gums and retard the healing. Removing tartar and plaques by seeing a hygienist and proper flossing and brushing will restore your gums far faster than anything like "Oil Pulling", alcohol based mouth washes, or peroxide. Then keep all the spirochetes dead, dead, dead by brushing with baking soda and twice a week Dakin's solution rinses will keep your mouth healthy.
Clear teeth?
Artery diseases are plaques. . . and plaques appear to be the accumulations of the dead bodies of oral spirochetes that have invaded the blood and body. . . plus the crud those dead bodies pick up. . . adhering the the vessel and artery walls. All of the chronic diseases of older age, including type 2 diabetes seem to be related to plaque build up on the Islands of Langerhans in the Pancreas in some way or another.

Ain’t goin’ after it. Could be worse, though. I had a friend lose a pager that way. Had to flush it three times before he could report to the boss it was “lost”.
So if you put an arterial plaque under a microscope you will see it is full of dead spirochetes?
When on deployments, I always had a small bottle of Baking soda. Swishing a bit and spitting it out or alternatively swallowing it after an acidic meal always kept my teeth fresh at any time of the day.
Translucent, then transparent at the thinest edges. It leaches the calcium out. It's rare, but has been seen in people who use peroxide too frequently as a tooth cleaning material or mouthwash in the stronger solutions. 8% of less is the concentration of peroxide that is approved for teeth whitening, but some peroxides are as high as 44% and people think that if a little is good a lot is better.
I have been rinsing with bleach for years. 1 teaspoon in a cup of water. I use any brand bleach and it hasn’t made a difference and still works well my hygienist first got me doing it and then a periodontist told me....yes, do it.
My teeth cleanings are easy peasy now.
Wow!
That's University of Virginia's buffered Dakin's solution that will allow you to keep the Dakin's Solution for a few days. That's not really necessary. You can mix straight un-buffered Dakin's as needed for immediate use without boiling, using straight tap water and no baking soda. You just have to make it every time you use it and throw it away because it doesn't "keep." The problem with the Buffered Dakin's Solution is you don't know how long it is effective. With the unbuffered, made when you need it, you know it is effective.
That being said, if you are going on a short trip, the buffered is a good way to take some with you so you don't have to take a bunch of separate fixings with you. Mix it up, seal it in a bottle tight so no air gets in between uses, and you are good to go for about a week.
I wonder what would happen if one never bothered to bathe or wipe?
Ask Michael Moore.
I figured that’s what you meant. Just being a pain in the butt.
:)
It's harder to do than that. Spirochetes are hard enough to see when they are alive. You have to have a phase contrast microscope to see them. . . they are almost transparent to begin with. They they look like long wires in a spiral. When alive, the are spotted because they move rapidly.
Take a look at the videos in the first post I made above.
But, yes, that is exactly what they find. . . along with a lot of other crud.
I looks like I have been doing something right. About 30 years ago I began to notice that tooth paste, any brand, made my gums sore.
I started using Arm and Hammer baking soda at that time and I still use it daily.
Lol! I wouldn’t get within 100 yards of him.
We only recommend Clorox brand because we know it is not adulterated with other chemicals . . . and that brand only with the blue cap because other caps styles of Clorox indicate they are adulterated with scents or detergents. i.e. other chemicals. Clorox has guaranteed the blue capped bottle will always be pure. There is no such guarantee with other brands. . . and some no name brands use the blue caps have been found to be adulterated or impure. Not something that should be used orally.
