Franklin County Sheriffs Office officials say a woman was shot in both legs and her boyfriend shot through his hand after her gun went off in her purse Saturday afternoon.
Lt. Phillip Young said the womans Glock went off while the couple sat in a vehicle outside a residence in the 1400 block of Virgil H. Goode Highway in Bassett about 3:30 p.m. The man, who was in the drivers seat, put a drink can in the womans purse before putting his hand on her leg .
[The bullet] went through his hand, through one of her legs near the knee area and then hit her other knee, Young said. Her pocketbook was full of stuff. Its hard to say what made it go off.
Both the man and the woman were taken to Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. Their names, ages and conditions were not available Saturday evening.
Officials are investigating what caused the guns discharge, Young said. No charges were filed Saturday.
That's when things got hot and went off with a bang.
You’ve got to watch Glocks and SUVs. They have a mind of their own. They do things...
That’ll teach him, huh?!
I know Glocks are supposed to be safe, but what proportion of unintentional discharges are Glocks compared to other pistols?
That gun is either jealous or a prude, ehehehe.
Here, hold my beer.
The best thing about Glocks is that a Glock with a round in the chamber will go off every time you pull the trigger. The worst thing about Glocks is that a Glock with a round in the chamber will go off every time you pull the trigger. I have a Glock that I love, but I treat it like a loaded gun with no safety - because it is.
Holsters are advised.
This story has more to it. I’ve owned a Glock since the first year they were available. A soda can won’t trip the trigger.
The gun belonged to her husband.
Obviously, it was trying to protect her virtue. He put his hand on her leg, and the gun reacted. The gun was probably given to her by her father after he carefully trained it.
Now if it was a knife and the husband is muslim it automatically cuts the head off at the slightest infraction.

I agree that a soda can won’t pull the trigger, but a loose Glock in a purse could have a pen, lipstick, roll of mints, or tampon partially inserted in the trigger guard. A soda can could easily push on that lever to fire the gun.
I’ve owned Glocks since 1990 and any Glock carried should be a Glock in a holster of some kind.

How about: “Holsters are mandatory”?
If you’re worried about quick access, buy a cheapo Uncle Mike’s holster and sew it to one of the purse’s sidewalls. Better yet, go to a gunshow and buy a purse that was designed to carry a firearm.
Funny... I’ve been carrying a Glock for twenty years now. It NEVER “just went off”... unless I pulled the trigger.
Gun goes in holster, holster goes on body... gun does not fire unless trigger is pulled.
Gun goes in purse, surrounded by clutter, with a round in the chamber... not good.
Darwin in action.
Im calling for a bs ruling. Magic glock? A finger is required.
It is not a “beginner’s gun”.
I read a news story a while back of a dude who kept a Glock on his bedside right next to his phone.
He was sleeping.
The phone rang.
He answered the Glock.
He is no longer taking calls.
Show me a woman's purse that isn't "full of stuff".
I suspect it was the ACME brand trigger puller she had in there.
Also, in 30+ years of marriage I don't recall ever putting a drink of any sort in my wife's purse.
