Iraqi officials in the northern city of Mosul said Saturday that militants with the Islamic State group have begun demolishing the ancient archaeological site of Hatra in northern Iraq in a push to rid its territory of symbols it says promote idolatry. An official with the ministry of tourism and antiquities' archaeological division in Mosul told The Associated Press that multiple residents living near Hatra heard two large explosions this morning, then reported seeing bulldozers begin demolishing the site. He spoke anonymously for fear of reprisal.

This city was established by the Greek states post-Alexander the great, the Seleucids. The Parthians centered in modern day Iran whom fought the Romans in the Mesopotamia area took over the place.

Since they are on this kick to destroy old stuff, maybe they can head south to that black rock.

Hauf (State Dept) might say, ‘busy hands are happy hands.’

Islamic policy...
1. nothing prior to Mohammed should be saved or venerated or protected or honored, because it did not have the benefit of Mohammed’s teachings
2. nothing developed or discovered since Mohammed should be saved or venerated or protected or honored, because it either merely repeats Mohammed or else it contradicts Mohammed

so... we are stuck with a billion-plus people who are living in the 7th century and following a Satanic, vicious, lying mass-murderering female-and-child abuser to guide their lives.

They are just cleaning up sites that Mohammad and his men missed the first time around.

Oddly enough, Saddam loved the pre-islamic history of Iraq. He rebuilt Ur and Babylon to his glory, but did what is, in Archaeology, a Mortal Sin.

He DID NOT delineate the ancient ruins from restoration with a LINE of demarcation.

So, what were Ancient Ruins became modern vanities for Saddam.

Unfortunately, ISIS does not make the distinction and destroys everything, modern or ancient.

What we’ve learned is that guys like Saddam, as bad as they may be, are par for the course in the Arab world. You replace them and what you’ll likely get is much much worse.

Indeed.

The Damascus “Town Meeting Scene” in Lawrence of Arabia comes to mind.

A True Constitutional Republic can only work with strong intellectual underpinnings that have their roots in the Judeo-Christian Ethic.

Even those of our founding Fathers who were not very “religious” recognized that fact.

When we try to export our freedoms without taking this into consideration, it is a recipe for disaster.

Several times, over the last couple of years.

Amen!
The one thing ( well, one of the things) I thought Bush really missed on was trying to create Iraq in our image.
Those people need a strong dictator.
