Several decades ago, while working the night shift at a gas station, a very gorgeous blonde pulled up to get gas at about 4 AM. It was a huge gas station with 28 pumps plus propane. She pulled up at the full-serve side of the station. As there were two of us working at the station we offered to check the oil and all the fluids and wash the windows; the whole nine yards. She did not realize that an engine also required oil to run, in addition to gasoline. She was able to line the car up correctly for gas but note that the filler cap was located behind the license plate, so it was not heard to line up the car!
Interesting place for an electrical connection.
Needs Benny Hill music.
“Yakety Sax!” Boots Randolph

“Every once in a while, I forget and have to get out and look.”
My old Durango has an arrow under the gas gauge. Every once in a while I did have to check it.
There was a George Burns Show on the other day where Gracie announced she was taking back the six coffee cup set she had purchased because half of the cups were left-handed. The psychiatrist said, “You could just turn the cups around.” She replied, “I already tried that, but then the other cups became left-handed!”
Not a comment on your dad or his car....A comment on Chevy engineering. Placing an few incandescent light bulbs and associated wiring/socketing in an explosive environment. Nice!
Sounds like me, never pumped my own gas and still have a flip phone. Works fine for me.
A ‘55 Chevy would be understandable.
It only hurts when I brake...
;)

the men in our family have alway made sure mom doesn’t have to fill her own gas. I’ve started relying on them for that as well. As a woman its just safer to let them take care of that!
Well, at least she knew how to back up a car unlike Calgary’s worst driver.... http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/parking-lot-video-of-calgary-s-worst-driver-gets-millions-of-views-1.2138730
Go to the second video at the link and you can watch the raw security camera footage of the simple act of backing out of a parking spot in all its painful glory.
GM has always been at the top for advanced engineering. like that switch thing recently.....That is why they are so successful today.
Weapons grade stupidity in motion ........awesome to watch.
Was there not some Ford cars that hid the damn thing under the license plate? Dimly recall, but then, most recollections are dim these days....
I was looking to see if anyone mentioned that. We just learned about this when I had to rent a car for one day!
Even hubby, who had driven probably millions of miles, and was a cab driver, and a limo driver and truck driver didn’t know about this.
It’s on the fuel gauge and points to which side of the car the “gas door” (wait what are they usually called?) is on.
I don’t know what they do if it’s behind the license plate and yes, I agree with the other poster who said that’s basically hiding them.
Yes, I’m a girl and I didn’t learn to drive until I was in my late 30s and the only thing I can do with a car is put the windshield washer fluid in. And I live in New Jersey so I don’t even pump gas!
That made me belly laugh. Poor thing.
