A surgeon who contracted Ebola while working in Sierra Leone was in extremely critical condition Sunday at a Nebraska hospital, his doctors said.
Dr. Martin Salia, who was diagnosed with Ebola on Monday, arrived in Omaha on Saturday to be treated at the Nebraska Medical Centers biocontainment unit that has successfully treated two other Ebola patients this fall.
Salia is extremely ill, said Dr. Phil Smith, who is helping oversee Salias treatment. The 44-year-old Salia might be more ill than the first Ebola patients successfully treated in the United States, according to the hospital.

He is not a U.S. citizen. I am not clear as to why we are treating him. Is he paying for his own treatment?
Don’t mean to be insensitive, but this guy should NOT have been brought to the US. Bet we don’t even have to ask who’s picking up the tab for his treatment.
It’s certain that hussein is behind this. His first attempts to create a pandemic were thwarted by Conservatives. His evil regime won’t reset until the outbreak spreads far and wide.
He’s not a citizen but he’s a legal permanent resident.
He lives in Maryland, so it would seem he is a legal resident. As such, he is probably covered by insurance. He's a surgeon; he can afford insurance.
Please don't tar all immigrants just because our politicians want to bring in so many illegals that they collapse our society. There are still plenty of people who go through the legal requirements to enter the US, and citizenship is not automatic for them even when they have permanent green cards.
I didn’t “tar” an immigrant. He is a citizen of Sierra Leone and I just said he is not a U.S. citizen so why are we treating him and is he paying for the treatment. Fair question I think.
So here is another question. Why is he “living in Maryland” if he is a doctor in Sierra Leone and a citizen of Sierra Leone. I don’t get it. Seems an awful long way to commute.
He’s a legal resident of the US. He went back to help. What’s so hard to understand? And yes, they wouldn’t bring him back until his wife verified that they would be paying for everything.
All Quiet on the Ebola Front.....
Then this is released. Get ready for a lot of oops, then a ramp up of US cases.
I keep thinking it would be better to treat patients like him on a boat. It would be easier to keep it contained.
A Sierra Leone citizen, the 44-year-old lives in Maryland and is a permanent U.S. resident, according to a person in the United States with direct knowledge of the situation.
...
The U.S. State Department said it was helping facilitate the transfer of Salia; the U.S. Embassy in Freetown said he was paying for the expensive evacuation. The travel costs and care of other Ebola patients flown to the U.S. were covered by the groups they worked for in West Africa.
” the U.S. Embassy in Freetown said he was paying for the expensive evacuation. “
Just paying for the expensive evacuation. I did not see anything about paying for the TREATMENT and all the necessary expenses that go along with Ebola patients’ care. Is he paying for those too?
I don't know. If he really is a permanent U.S. resident, and he is wealthy enough to pay for the evacuation, he probably has health insurance.
Wonder if the people treating him will be going on bike rides, plane trips, to bowling alleys, etc? Planning weddings in other states? Demanding respect and five minutes of fame?
“Extremely ill” means extremely contagious. The O-verlords won’t be satisfied until we have a good solid outbreak here. Obama should show solidarity and fairness and go give the guy a big hug.
I like your thinking. He only hugs them AFTER they’re declared ‘cured.’
The Doctor is an employee of the United Methodist hospital system. He has health care insurance. That’s the least of our concerns.

‘Doctor says God called him to Sierra Leone’
In an exclusive interview with United Methodist Communications in April, 2014, Dr. Salia talked about how important it was for him to work at a Christian hospital.
A snippet from the article referenced:
“Salia, a Sierra Leone citizen who lives in Maryland, first showed Ebola symptoms on Nov. 6 but tested negative for the virus. He eventually tested positive on Monday.”
Note: He was well into symptoms BEFORE his blood test showed positive for the virus.
That is an excellent idea for a project for a government that doesn't look to every crisis with an attitude of, "How can we make hay off of this politically?" I hope we soon return to such a government.
If God tells you to go, you better go.
Remember that these treatment supercenters are all required to be close to the bio research labs where the researchers can be treated if infected with things far more infectious than Ebola.
