I whipped my head around toward the door. A gorgeous, smartly dressed blond woman holding a baby stood silhouetted in the door frame. It was the mayor of Weimar’s wife.
“I . . . I found your rabbits!” I stammered with a cheerful nervousness. “They’re alive and safe!”
“Why in the hell are you stealing my rabbits’ food?” barked the woman. “Animals!” I stood silent and stared at the floor.
“I’m reporting this immediately!” she said, stomping away. My heart pounded in my emaciated chest. A few minutes later, an SS soldier ordered me to come out of the cellar. I knew what was coming, and the knowing made it all the worse.
“Down on the ground, you dog! Fast!” yelled the German. He gripped his baton and bludgeoned my back. I do not know whether the mayor’s wife watched the beating. Given her cruelty, why would she want to miss it? On the hike back to Buchenwald, I replayed the scene over and over in my mind.
How could a woman carrying her own child find a walking skeleton saving her pets and have him beaten for nibbling on rotten animal food? I thought.
In that moment, my numbness to death melted. In its place rose an alien blood lust, a hunger for vengeance unlike any I had ever known. The surge of adrenaline and rush of rage felt good inside my withered frame.
Then and there I made a vow to myself: If I survived Buchenwald, I would return and kill the mayor’s wife.

Nope. The text tells us why she had the boy beaten - for stealing the rabbit food. If she thought the boy’s life was worth less than the rabbit food then maybe she would have killed him. And to be absolutely correct, there’s nothing in the text that says she even had him beaten. She said she was going to report the boy for stealing. She never said anything about beating the boy.

Except that she didn’t do it. The Nazis were knew what it was to murder people. There was no attempt to murder the boy. No shooting, no stabbing, no broken bones, no serious injury requiring him to be sent to the hospital in Buchenwald camp.

I read enough of it that the point about handing the kid to the girls still stands. And whether it was this POS or another POS that went full emo doesn’t really matter. ALL of them in power were responsible.

Not stupidly - intelligently. And not the child, that's your perverted fantasy. Nor would I think of calling a teenager who survived a Nazi death camp a boy. Nor would I call a Nazi bitch who demanded an easily potentially lethal armed attack against a starving prisoner by a member of a group of known homicidal maniacs a woman, nor a mother, nor would I call that anything less than attempted murder of body and soul and spirit. Nor would I call such a young man, under such conditions, a thief of rabbit food or cars. Nor would I consider such a Nazi bitch, as a mayor's wife, no less, keeping a car hidden under immediate occupation conditions as planning anything other than escape and evasion. Nor should such a Nazi bitch be seen as guilty of anything less than total support of the Nazi murder machine through her body and mind and efforts and agreement.
That young man, having survived a death camp experience to which that Nazi bitch deliberately, knowingly and sadistically added a brutal beating and soul degradation, should have executed her for her sadistic and life-threatening attack against him specifically, and her crimes against humanity generally. That he didn't was a moral mistake, which I excuse because of his obvious psychological trauma at the time - especially of the type of moral lies and factual obfuscation which you are carefully espousing in this thread, and which I clarified above. A starving man beaten with a nightstick by an SS guard, and you claim that he wasn't hospitalized at a death camp as proof of its triviality? I can hear the sticking black hole of your lack of conscience all the way across the Net! You would have done well as a defense attorney at Nuremberg.

Best possible outcome. The evil offed itself and the kid then had a chance. I’d still rather they had taken the kid and handed it to the girl mentioned. Which I did read.
