The day a Holocaust survivor got revenge on his tormentor

He survived the savagery of the Holocaust, made it to America with barely a penny and became a world-famous tailor in Brooklyn, dressing celebrities and presidents. In his new memoir, “Measure of a Man,” Martin Greenfield tells the story of his extraordinary life.

-snip

I whipped my head around toward the door. A gorgeous, smartly dressed blond woman holding a baby stood silhouetted in the door frame. It was the mayor of Weimar’s wife.

“I . . . I found your rabbits!” I stammered with a cheerful nervousness. “They’re alive and safe!”

“Why in the hell are you stealing my rabbits’ food?” barked the woman. “Animals!” I stood silent and stared at the floor.

“I’m reporting this immediately!” she said, stomping away. My heart pounded in my emaciated chest. A few minutes later, an SS soldier ordered me to come out of the cellar. I knew what was coming, and the knowing made it all the worse.

“Down on the ground, you dog! Fast!” yelled the German. He gripped his baton and bludgeoned my back. I do not know whether the mayor’s wife watched the beating. Given her cruelty, why would she want to miss it? On the hike back to Buchenwald, I replayed the scene over and over in my mind.

How could a woman carrying her own child find a walking skeleton saving her pets and have him beaten for nibbling on rotten animal food? I thought.

In that moment, my numbness to death melted. In its place rose an alien blood lust, a hunger for vengeance unlike any I had ever known. The surge of adrenaline and rush of rage felt good inside my withered frame.

Then and there I made a vow to myself: If I survived Buchenwald, I would return and kill the mayor’s wife.

Looks like a good read!

I read, ‘In My Hands’ by Irene Gut Opdyke years ago and I will never forget it.

Mans inhumanity to man, sadly, continues to this day.

Wish he had taken the baby and given it to one of those girls he saw later. Because the child likely grew up being taught to hate the Jews for what ‘they did’ to Nazi Germany.

I would bet that that child had a very bad life after and that the witch dedicated herself to being as evil as possible.

I’m not quite so impressed with happiness or satisfaction over a woman, a mother, committing suicide...no matter the circumstances, there still is a baby involved...

“In Weimar, the mayor and his wife, after seeing Buchenwald atrocities, slashed their wrists.”
That day at the mayor’s home, God pricked my conscience. In so doing, He spared me the guilt and shame of killing the mayor of Weimar’s wife.
I didn’t need to kill her. She did it for me.”

Some other people have pointed out that it was NOT the mayor of Weimar and his wife who committed suicide but the mayor and wife from a town nearby.

To tell you the truth, if you look at the ages of the mayors of Weimar from the 30s and 40s, I’m not so sure any of them had a “gorgeous” young wife. This whole story may be BS.

You were saddened when abortion funding Romney lost and have fought in his memory since. Now, you express regret a Nazi who condemned an innocent man to hell on earth, killed herself rather than face the music of life out of power. Seems to be a pattern of supporting evil people. Why?

Someone should send a copy of this book to George Soros, the Jewish Nazi.

Maybe he will kill himself (but I doubt it).

He should have shot her.

His comparison of her with the innocent mothers the Nazis murdered was morally atrocious. And allowing her to live and raise a child only condemned that child to being raised by evil.

And how many others did she send to death camps, as the mayor’s wife? How many soldiers fought an killed and died in order to free him? Did he offer to stay in the camp so that no more Nazis would be killed by soldiers? Or is killing only moral when someone else does it?

She even lied about the car. She was utterly unrepentant. Her only thought was to survive, escape, and continue supporting evil. She was no mother - even animals breed. Motherhood is the opposite of what she was. SHE WAS THE ENEMY.

She was surrounded by all the death she caused, finally cornered after years of indulging in her indefensible homicidal hatred. That baby probably wasn’t even hers - she just calculated that hiding behind motherhood would save her rotten neck.

He should have loudly invoked God’s justice and shot the lying, calculating, scheming, sadistic and mass-murdering bitch dead.

There is a very good Twilight Zone episode about a Dachau Guard being driven insane by the ghosts of those he tortured.

Yeah, attractive women almost never gravitate to money and power. Clearly BS. And the attractive scale is seriously skewed when you are on a day in town working from the death camp. Your “logic” is astounding.

You don’t have to like it. I am wary of holocaust survivor stories nowadays because there are a number of frauds out there:

“She was surrounded by all the death she caused...”

Wow, she did all that by herself? Here I thought it was, you know, Hitler, the SS, the Nazi Party, millions of complicit Germans and various allies...but no, it was one blond woman in Weimar.

“She even lied about the car.”

Oh, no, not that! Someone lying to keep her personal property from being taken by youths armed with machine guns! Shocking I tell you, shocking!

Not even remotely adequate, comrade. Nazis pray for opponents as politically correct as you. They even have a special name for your kind: “Mittagessen.”

Sam Adams said it best: “Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

“Not even remotely adequate, comrade.”

I have no idea what your comment means.

“Nazis pray for opponents as politically correct as you.”

Oh, so not blaming the blond German woman for the whole holocaust or not wanting her and her kid to be shot by machine gun wielding teenagers after the war is already over in her neck of the woods makes someone politically correct? Really?

“They even have a special name for your kind: “Mittagessen.””

That means “lunch”. Seriously, look it up.

“Sam Adams said it best: “Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.””

And would Sam Adams have murdered a woman and her child? I guess he was too politically correct.

You’re even more stupid than I realized.

Yeah, it means “lunch.” That’s why I wrote it. It describes people who call murdering Nazis mommies. And yeah, Sam Adams would have blown that war criminal away. That’s why America exists today, and protects people like you while you pervert morality into FUD - because historically, people like Sam Adams DID blow away the Nazi bitches that had prisoners beaten for eating rotten lettuce, while people like you looked the other way.

And of course you call me stupid, comrade. Otherwise you’d have to look in a mirror.

But it’s okay - Hillary is proud of you. And that’s all that matters, because she takes care of her own. Sure she does - LOL!

” It describes people who call murdering Nazis mommies.”

No one did that. Remember, no one in the story was murdered by a woman. If the “mommy” had murdered the Jewish boy in question the story would have ended after he found the rabbits. This just proves how off base you are.

“And yeah, Sam Adams would have blown that war criminal away.”

That’s hilarious! Are you writing this as a parody of reality or something? Seriously, you’re making yourself look like an idiot. You really believe Sam Adams would have murdered an unarmed woman holding a child in a place where there wasn’t even any fighting?

“That’s why America exists today...”

America exists today because Sam Adams would have murdered an unarmed woman holding a child? Seriously, are you on crack?

“and protects people like you while you pervert morality into FUD - because historically, people like Sam Adams DID blow away the Nazi bitches that had prisoners beaten for eating rotten lettuce, while people like you looked the other way.”

Oh, I’m cutting and pasting that screed onto my profile page. That has to be the most over-the-top, hamster-for-a -brain, drank-two-fifths-of-tequila-for-breakfast bag of nuttiness I have ever seen at FR. My hat is off to you. I was all wrong about you. I thought you were an idiot. Now I realize you’re just nuts. You can’t help it.

“And of course you call me stupid, comrade. Otherwise you’d have to look in a mirror.”

I’ll have to look in the mirror anyway - cause I shave every day. I called you stupid because you seemed to be. Now I realize that you have other problems.

“But it’s okay - Hillary is proud of you.”

I bet ‘she’ told you that before you remembered to take your medication, right? Make sure you mention ‘her visit’ to your doctor next time you see him.

“And that’s all that matters, because she takes care of her own. Sure she does - LOL!”

Well, at least that’s what ‘she’ told you, right?

What exactly did she do?

How do you know she lied about it?
