COACHELLA (CBSLA.com) — Several gunshots were fired Tuesday at the Islamic Society of Coachella, hitting the building and a vehicle, but no one was injured, authorities said.
Police officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired shortly after 5 a.m. along the 84000 block of Avenue 49, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident was being investigated as a possible hate crime.
The Los Angeles Council on American-Islamic Relations office issued a statement calling for an FBI investigation.
“Any time shots are fired at a house of worship, the FBI should offer its resources to local authorities to help determine whether or not there was a bias motive for the attack,” CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said.
But swastikas on a Synagog is free speech.

That’s some pretty lousy shooting for a ‘Hate Crime.’ ;)

Coachella’s maybe ten miles from here, and the demographic is over 99 percent Mexican....and there are gang-style shootings there several times a week — I’m betting the gunplay had nothing to do with this little ‘mosque’.
The absolute first question that needs to be asked. Has the Mosque hosted any weddings recently? If “yes” then case closed.

Nope. When churches are vandalized and set on fire they aren’t hate crimes.
This shouldn’t be either.
Either they ALL are or none of them are.
Personally I’d favor dropping the concept of hate crimes but until that day, it should either be applied consistently or not at all.
