(CNN) -- A 5-year-old boy who recently returned from Ebola-stricken West Africa is under observation at New York City's Bellevue Hospital Center after experiencing a fever, Dr. Ram Raju said on CNN on Monday.

Special Section: More Ebola news

The boy is undergoing an evaluation, which includes taking a thorough history of the child's recent travel with his family to West Africa and finding out if he's come into contact with people who have Ebola, said Raju, the president of New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, which oversees Bellevue.

CNN's Chris Cuomo asked why the child wasn't simply tested for Ebola right away, and Raju answered that officials need to establish first whether he had any contact with Ebola sufferers. He is with his mother, Raju said.

That poor child...waiting on paperwork for proper diagnosis? Why withhold or delay this blood test when the child, a mere 5 years old, is already exhibiting 103 degree fever and vomiting given he just arrived from Guinea on Saturday?

It’s all part of Obama’s game. That is, don’t make it look like anybody from that part of the world with those symptoms is automatically suspect - which they are - so therefore don’t automatically test them even when they have Ebola like symptoms.

Of course, in the case of a small child, this delay could be fatal. But Obama doesn’t care. With him, politicizing everything is the primary concern.

How expensive is this test? He has the symptoms. He is from a known Ebola area. What’s the hold up?

His family was oblivious, ignorant or even negligent for having the boy stay in that Hot Zone. Who in that area of Africa does not know what’s going on? It could be that after the parents, now aware of their deadly oversight, have become desperate to get the best treatment for their boy, before he reaches that dreaded second stage of hemmorhage and internal organ failure.

(hat tip to: fivecatsandadog!)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Perhaps the pResident needs a sympathetic individual to keep our attention diverted. The test results could come with a lot of drama. Ok, bring out the kid.

Hope I'm wrong.

Ah what if he does have Ebola but his family don’t know if anyone hes been around the last couple of weeks had Ebola ???

someone at his school, someone in the street or a store,

or he might have been in a public restroom after an Ebola patient

or on a plane (remember it can show up in 2 days)

or in the airport, bus, etc..

what if one of his relatives in Africa had Ebola or was a carrier, unbeknown while the family were there..

the family do not really have to know for sure if someone he was around had Ebola..

I could get Ebola from a treadmill at the gym and not know who gave the disease to me..

theres 10,000+ members at my Y...

“They know by now”

Which means he probably has Ebola. This morning they were saying the results would be available early afternoon. Buying time?

ITV.com: New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has confirmed doctors are awaiting test results on a five-year-old boy who was admitted to Bellevue Hospital with possible Ebola symptoms. The preliminary test results are expected in the next 12 hours, de Blasio said.

Earlier today, reports stated test results expected early this afternoon...sure sounds like they are buying time to score a plausible narrative.

"He had returned from a family trip to Guinea on Saturday night on a Moroccan Airlines flight which landed at JFK. He was screened but did not have a fever when he entered the U.S., CDC director, Dr Tom Frieden said on Monday. Five members of the child's family have been quarantined inside their apartment, law enforcement officials said, but told EMTs that they did not have contact with anyone infected with Ebola while in Guinea. Those under quarantine at the Bronx apartment are believed to be the boy's father, 52, a 15-year-old sister and two brothers, aged 13 and two years old, the Daily News reported. [snip]The boy's preliminary test results were expected later today, hospital officials said ."UKDailyMail

Several uncomfirmed tweets in the last 20 minutes or so saying the kid is Ebola POSITIVE.

Won’t know for sure until some media catches up.

I went to see my dermatologist this morning. They wanted to know whether I had traveled outside the country in the last 21 days. Wow. Never been asked that before.

My dentist had a sign on the door saying, Don’t come in if you’ve been to Africa or have blah blah blah symptoms. Phone and reschedule your appointment at least a month later.
