After posting yet another disappointing quarter, McDonalds CEO Don Thompson said Tuesday the company hasnt been keeping up with the times and that changes are in store for its U.S. restaurants.
Thompson said that starting in January, McDonalds will simplify its menu to make room for restaurants to offer options that are best-suited for their regions. To offer greater customization, he also said the company planned to expand its Create Your Taste offering that lets people pick the buns and toppings they want on burgers by tapping a touchscreen. The program is currently being offered in Southern California, and McDonalds has said it will roll it out nationally in Australia. [ ]
The changes come as McDonalds continues to struggle with myriad problems. One of its biggest challenges in the U.S. is long-held perceptions around the freshness and quality of its ingredients. The chain has been fighting to boost sales as people gravitate toward foods they feel are more wholesome. As a result, people have been gravitating to places like Chipotle, which markets its ingredients as being of superior quality.

As well as doing absolutely nothing to improve the quality of their food.
I like 5 Guys. Their burgers taste like real hamburgers you would make at home.
They cost somewhat more than McDonald’s and other fast food, but for much better quality, it’s worth it to me to pay more at 5 Guys.
The touchscreen ordering is the difference, not the changing of toppings. I’ve never been denied holds or additional items at McD’s or at any other hamburger restaurant I’ve been to.
I’ve been to the Owl Bar, a true classic. But if you ever pass through again, try Burger Boy in Cedar Crest (just a bit east of ABQ), which is IMO much better.
Mc Donalds was good tasting and fast when they served hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, shakes, and a few other limited drinks.
Don’t mess with my McChicken meal for $3.89 incl. sales tax.
stop selling salad and fruid no one wants and go back to your original french fries!
And hire some employees who look like they didn’t just mug someone !
I went to NMIMT and lived in San Antonio, so I just love the Owl Bar. I will try to remember Burger Boy if I ever get back that way— kinda hard coming from FL.
I am a real chile head and miss chile season something fierce. Every place I go, I try to find the hottest food and sauce. Indian is the only real hot I have found since leaving the South West...
You must have had Mexican food in Minnesota a long time ago. Vast stretches of Lake Street in Minneapolis and parts of St. Paul are nothing but Hispanic mercados and taquerias and panaderias. I even saw a taco truck in small town Worthington, Minnesota.
Chipotle is fine for what it is, but even this Minnesotan knows it is not authentic.
They should start by selling food, instead of inedible dreck.
No doubt. It’s funny, we were just discussing how much better the food at McDonald’s was before they tried to go healthy. Bah—gimme a Hardee’s burger for the price—plenty of grease and as big as a house!
I won’t even talk about the employees—there are some decent McDonald’s, but they are not the norm anymore.
We have about six mcds i n our town. All have been rebuilt and are beautiful and very clean. Depends on the operator and the city. I would never stop at a mcds kn detroit or other big cities but in hi tech upscale places they are quite feasible and profitable.
No offense, but most of Minnesota thinks that spice means salt and pepper. Lol
Minnie has a good selection of restaurants, but the rest of the state is pretty much meat and potatoes (and corn). Grill and bar or bar and grill—not exactly Cali or New Mexico...
The problem that I see for “fast food” is that the price differential (never mind the quality and general ambiance) between eating there and eating at a real restaurant seems to be smaller than ever. And, with few exceptions (My favorites, Chick Fil A/Subway/Quiznos), it isn’t exactly healthy. It isn’t bad, but it isn’t good either.
McDonalds food sucks total balls.
It is an avenue to a fat, slow to react America.
McDonalds debilitates.

I won’t touch their french fries - they are so nasty tasting, as are their hamburger buns.Did you mean to say something other than “running from the Democrats?” That line didn’t make sense to me.
I’d probably go back to McDonalds if they’d serve something different.....LIKE FOOD!

The buns could be better. The old fries were the best in the business.
And the Democrats are the only ones pursuing business to make wholesale changes to their menus, so, no, I was correct in targeting them.
I agree! All those new stupid things they out on the menu--I order a cheeseburger and fries every time. Same thing I ordered when I was six!
