Tamoxifen cures breast cancer, and it is an extract of the Pacific Northwest Yew tree. Tamoxifen exists in both the bark and berries of the tree.

Might as well find another anti-cancer compound in another tree.

I googled blushwood tree and came up with articles in an Australian paper, Blaze, Guardian, Daily Mail UK. Probably all have the same information.

There also are agents being used in medicine on other diseases that are accidentally found to protect against cancer.

Metformin is a diabetes drug, been around for years. Clinics noticed that diabetics on Metformin got cancer at a lower rate than the general population. Now Metformin is prescribed sometimes as a cancer fighter. Today there are many agents that can be used against cancer, and they can be combined to enhance effect. Which was also a rare tree and for years it was seldom used because of that.

Then someone found that there was a similar compound in a more common variety of yew tree. Then in the 90's one of those E-VIL pharmaceutical company got a hold of it. And synthesized it. With less side effects.

And it became a main stream treatment.
