Wow haven’t seen that one in years. Love those movies.
This is actually one of my favorite old movies.
I saw it a few months ago on Netflix, when James Gardner died.
Highly recommenrd.
James Garner and Doris Day were an excellent classic movie couple. I also recommend their other film together, “The Thrill of it All”.
I never knew Doris Day had another leading man besides Rock Hudson.
I always thought they had chemistry, until...well, you know.
Indeed.
She had many impressive actors as her leading men: James Stewart, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, James Cagney among others.
But Garner was the one she had the best onscreen chemistry with IMHO.
What I find interesting is supposedly everyone who worked with her thought highly of her, except Alfred Hitchcock. He was not happy with her being cast in his movie “The man who knew too much”. In fact, in the scene where she sings “Que Sera, Sera”, he walked off the set in protest.
I think he liked her as an actress, just not for one of his movies.
I knew James Gardner growing up as Rockford, and his commercials with Mariette Hartley.
I think he was the kind of actor who had great chemistry with women. He seemed like he was the real deal. He did a western with Suzanne Pleshette I liked
Thank you!
"Support Your Local Gunfighter"
Have you see the prequel, "Support Your Local Sheriff" with Joan Hackett? Really funny, too!
“Move Over, Darling is a 1963 remake of the 1940 screwball comedy My Favorite Wife that starred Irene Dunne, Cary Grant, Randolph Scott and Gail Patrick.”
Also a great movie.
Yes I did. I think that’s the one with Harry Morgan as the dad? He wanted to go to Australia ?
Thanks. Will watch on Netflix :)
Love the old DD movies.
This movie was also the film that Marilyn Monroe was making when she died. The same script was named “Something’s Got To Give” with Monroe in the Doris Day role and Dean Martin in the Garner role. Cyd Charise was the Polly Bergen role.
Once Monroe died, the project was scrapped as Martin not want to work with anyone else. Some of the sets in this film were the same ones used for SGTG.
That was a great one! Almost afraid to watch it again, in case it didn't age well.
Yep. Harry Morgan was the father in both movies.
But Doris Day did not do a nude pool scene. Wouldn’t have worked with her image.
The original film, My Favorite Wife, is so much better than the remake!
I love “Support Your Local Gunfighter” with Garner and Pleshette. That’s one of my favorite comedy westerns of all time.
Another funny one he made was “How Sweet Is Is!” with Debbie Reynolds-

I love the exchange he has with his liberal, hippy son-
The liberal hippy son says: “Love’s all over the world dad. It protects us all.”
To which Garner correctly responds: “Well, I’ve been all over the world son. Take a gun.”
