According to a study published in Nature, oceanic mercury levels have tripled since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.
Far surpassing earlier estimates, data collected during research cruises from 2006-2011 in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans has revealed a 340% increase in surface-level mercury content. During the cruises, deep seawater samples (depths up to 5km) were compared to surface water samples. The analysis implicates the burning of fossil fuels as the primary culprit of this dramatic rise, with mining activities thought to have also contributed a significant amount.

Breaded and fried, boiled or sauteed, calamari is tender and tasty when done right. However because of its delicate nature, cooking it just a little longer than recommended could leave you with rubbery, chewy calamari. Pre-soaking it in milk before cooking is one way to get this delicate squid nice and tender. Cooking it quickly over high heat or slowly over a very low heat are the best cooking methods to guarantee you succulent calamari.
[ Not this STUFF again! Seems we have to endure the oceans being full of mercury every ten years, or so when some jackass hasnt anything else to write about. ]
That being said, Mercury and Lead pollution are a LOT BIGGER problem in terms of pollution than CO2 will EVER BE!
But I still think they are blowing it out of proportion, some areas DO have Mercury and Lead pollution problems, but those are LOCAL problems.
I wonder how much mercury the “black smokers” and I am not talking about the “gentle Giant” or “St. Swisher Sweet” are putting into the ocean...
It’s got to be something. Global Warming going the way of the Ozone Hole.
Rain Forest Reduction and Acid Rain both kicked to the curb of liberal uselessness.
DDT and the eggs of birds.
Good Grief lefties, it’s about time the Tuna were sent through the moonbat chopping block.
Maybe so. But 20,000,000 people live in southern CA and the runoff goes through their yards/streets and finally into the ocean. Plus their sewage ultimately ends up in that water.
Last time I was in the grocery store - Monday I think it was - canned tuna was still 80 cents a can.
But please don’t tell the liberals - it just makes them unhappy.
“Yep I’m guessing it went from 1 part per billion to 3.4 parts per billion (or some similarly infinitesimally small amount)....”
My thoughts also. When the percentage change only is provided, one can almost smell the reason it was given.
Could be bad, might not be bad at all.
Won’t know from that article.
On the positive side, with the increased mercury, you’ll know and feel the effects of glow-bull warming/change/discombobulation well before all those idiotic, loser deniers you used to hang out with. Now THAT is optimism.
“The great thing about numbers is if you torture them enough they’ll say anything you want”
Would like to know the methodology used to measure this, and if it has changed significantly since the industrial revolution.
And your point is?
Catfish melts work pretty good!
With this news, maybe the price for cans of tuna will drop and I can buy more for my prepper store.
Is line-caught tuna still ok?
That’s probably true. Besides I think the radioactivity from Fukashima kind of outshines mercury at the moment.
“HOLY MACKEREL”
Absolutely. :-)
IMHO
They are using gun-control tactics. I remember when the Brady Bunch screamed about a 200% increase in assault weapons used in crimes - turned out it went from something like .001 to .003.
I wrote the reporter and said to be skeptical when any group uses percentages instead of actual numbers, as it means their position is weak and they have to use subterfuge. He said I had a point and would double-check any further releases. He was the only one who ever answered positively.
Most of the ocean fish related problems are due to over fishing by the Japanese and the Chinese. And that is a serious problem.
ANY “wild caught” fish that has a “Product of China” on the label is utter poison. China has polluted it’s coastal waters beyond belief. Like a B sifi movie. I talking about fish that comes out of solvent layered waters. My daughter has been there, seen it. Disgusting. 90% of the fish in Kroger is China produced. I will not touch it.
Otherwise, most of the stuff we are told is EcoTard propaganda.
I see the enormous flow of traffic to hot springs on weekends. There’s likely much mercury in those hot springs. Have fun. Enjoy the slide.
