Fasting for as little as three days can regenerate the entire immune system, even in the elderly, scientists have found in a breakthrough described as remarkable.
Although fasting diets have been criticized by nutritionists for being unhealthy, new research suggests starving the body kick-starts stem cells into producing new white blood cells, which fight off infection.
Scientists at the University of Southern California say the discovery could be particularly beneficial for people suffering from damaged immune systems, such as cancer patients on chemotherapy. [ ]
Scientists found that prolonged fasting also reduced the enzyme PKA, which is linked to aging and a hormone which increases cancer risk and tumour growth.

Man, don’t tell me that. I drink 2 cups of regular and then brew a pot of decaf to sip on, iced, during the day when it’s summertime.
Augh.
All the good stuff is bad for you.
I haven’t been the same since I figured out ‘healthy whole grain whole wheat’ bread was making me ill.
What’s next!?
LOL.
Yes, an entire week. And frankly, after the first couple of days, it was pretty easy.
Yes, I drank water.
BOL.
This link tells you about the 4 methods that are used to decaff coffee. After reading it, you can make the choice:

Re the so called whole grained breads, read the label if they have one. Since we started our modified Paleo/Med diet, labels on so called whole grained breads and pasta are often a little scary like a chemists’s witches bread brew.
How much weight did you lose? And, after you began eating again the following week, did you put any of it back on?
maybe I should try that.
How much energy did you have?
Quite a while ago, I wrote an essay that described this very thing.
It was, in general, related to aging, but covered fasting - a period when the body gears up to clean out and digest ANYTHING that’s not essential.
.
The weight loss was not particularly impressive — less than five pounds, if I remember right. But the energy I gained led me to get to the gym more often and cut way down on the food I ate — especially the starches
— so I eventually got rid of the excess tonnage I had picked up.
Been fasting, on and off, for decades - funny never get sick. And some of my fasts are quite long (up to 9 days). I’m just finishing up day 4 of my latest.
About time some of the IDIOTS in medicine figured this out.
“Ive found that after about a day and a half hunger goes away. The first day and a half rough though. For me, eating small amounts is the hardest since I am always hungry.”
Same here...I simply cannot eat small amounts - once I start, I gorge. But eating nothing, that’s easy after a couple of days, just some light reminders from my body that it wants some food, but mild.
On day two of a three day fast.
Just black tea and water.
Intermittently hungry but very manageable.
