New info this morning says he had been drinking and had a 3 month old son. A series of bad decisions and Darwin steps in to handle the situation. And the "adult" that was with them? Any charges coming his way? Of course this guy was 18, legally of age in Georgia.

If he already had a son, Darwin stepped in too late.

Since he already has a child, his genes will likely continue on. Not the greatest example of darwin award candidate.

in which people launch someone off a dock in a shopping cart This sounds like something I would have done when I was young and stupid (as opposed to now, when I'm older and stupid). They say God protects drunks and fools, and I was definitely both when I did stuff like that.

Witnesses said he had just graduated from high school on SaturdayOut of respect for the recently departed, I will refrain from my usual "it's time to pull your kids out of government run schools, people" mantra.

Sometimes, there are terrible consequences.

“The rope was tied to the cart and his belt loop, she said.
When the cart was pushed off the dock, it dragged Werner down into about 30 feet of water and he drowned, she said.”
Just graduated? Proof, common sense is not taught or
promoted in schools, the only problem is that he was
able to reproduce before mother nature stepped in to
correct it’s mistake. And the gene pool will be further
corrupted.

Launching people off a dock in a shopping cart wasn't the problem; it's how the cart was anchored to the dock, FTA:
Werner and two other young men were pushing each other into the lake in the shopping cart, and pulling the cart back up with a rope, according to Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap.
Typically when people play this game, the cart is tied to a pole at the dock, but in this instance, Werner decided to act as the pole, Cummings said. The rope was tied to the cart and his belt loop, she said.
When the cart was pushed off the dock, it dragged Werner down into about 30 feet of water and he drowned, she said.
Sometimes you just can't fix stupid.

The kid tied the shopping cart's retrieval rope to his pants.

It’s beyond time to call for shopping cart licensing and registration, including capacity limitations and biometric identification. In addition to lawsuits against the shopping cart manufacturer, which has steadfastly refused common-sense shopping-cart safety measures such as loaded cart indicators and “do not tie yourself to this and then jump in a lake that is deeper than the rope is long” notification signs.
