Conservatives who believe that winning back control of the Senate will destroy any chance of amnesty legislation passing are sorely mistaken. In fact, a Republican-controlled Congress may make it easier to provide a path to citizenship for all of the country's illegal immigrants if this Congress fails to do so.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who has his eye on the GOP presidential nomination and was the central figure who backed the Senate's amnesty bill that passed last year, said that Republicans in the Senate would "absolutely" take up amnesty legislation again if they gain a net of six seats to take back the upper chamber. He indicated that piecemeal or bite-sized bills would be better than his Gang of Eight amnesty bill that he championed and which faced stiff resistance from House conservatives.
If Republicans retain the House, that would mean GOP leaders like Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who would become Majority Leader, and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) may promptly abandon the conservative base to strike a deal on amnesty legislation.
Rubio conceded that he did not "think a comprehensive bill can pass," but emphasized that he did not "want us to waste another two years on an approach that has no chance of passing."

The elites in both parties are conspiring to transform America and utterly destroy ANY chance your children have of a prosperous future.
F! THESE TRAITORS!!!
Get mad at the people right here on Free Republic that are helping elect more of them. Stop them from doing the liberals’ job for them.
We cannot survive enemies within.
Bingo. The rhinos are completely out of touch and blind. They have a death wish. We are doomed. God help us, and it appears that is long past due and may never come. I hope I am wrong.
Embrace the collapse. It is the only hope we have at this point of getting liberals out of power.
I often ask myself the same question.
Our Republic will be destroyed if Amnesty passes. These third world scum hate America, hate Capitalism and have NO interest in learning English.
We need another Operation Wetback. Eisenhower 1st OW was a success. We need to seal the Southern border and start forcefully deporting these third world invaders by the millions.
I asked the same question once. Someone said, toss a coin.
Why, oh why do We, the People have any compelling reasons to vote for any Doormat Republicans, or Obama Democrats who have promised to advance Obamas Agenda to Fundamentally transform the United States of America by increasing the number of undocumented Democrat voters who are Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico?
All Doormat Boehner has tio do is not bring his Boehner Amnesty Bill in the House up for a vote and Reids Senate Amnesty bill dies a well-deserved, and NECESSARY death.
We, the People have seen our Federal Politicians in the Republican and Democrat Party enable Obama, for over five years, to bring great harm to the United States of America.
Those, in both political parties, who cant stand America, stand against We, the People.
We, the People know that it is time, - - - time for a change in 2014.
Open borders, no benefits. The immigration policy that served this country so well at the turn of the last century should be re-instituted. Millions of our grandparents came to this country and succeeded without a dime of public assistance. Why are no Republicans articulating this tried-and-true and simple and just immigration policy? And it can all be put into one soundbite-—Open borders, no benefits. You will not be hunted down like animals, you will not be deported, you can stay as long as you like.
boy the repubs are just trying to make it as difficult as possible to vote for them.
i wish repubs gave as much concern to the actual citizens they represent as they do to illegal foreign invaders. that have no desire to assimilate, that won’t clean up their own country, andjust take money from here and ship it to relatives in their true home country.
Rand Paul's immigration speech...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reformLatinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...[Posted on 04/21/2013 1:52:42 PM PDT by SoConPubbie]
[but he's not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
RepublicRats!
Well, that would be because the collective ‘we’ is not nearly as conservative as the collective ‘we’ likes to claim.
___
the following is targeted at the collective ‘we’, not any one person...since no one person got us where we are.
The Republicans doing the Dems bidding did not get there by magic or accident. People on and within the political Right put them there. now “we” are expelling all sorts of anger and frustration.
Well what the hell did ‘we’ expect when ‘we’ voted for those kinds of people? Contrary to the popular head in the sand notion pushed hard by some people claiming to be right wing conservatives, who went out of their way to attack others in a completely Alynski manner, one does not move a political party right by electing people spouting leftist ‘values’. Sorry it does not work that way regardless of how evil the Democrat is. It does not work that way regardless of how many times you say it to your buddies or your opponents.
All it does is elect more leftists. I actually asked several KIDS and they figured out what a bunch of supposedly right wing conservatives could not. And when a child proves to have a better grasp on politics, right and wrong than an adult, perhaps that/those adults should be recognized as the source of our collective problem.
We do not have open leftists electing the people now working harder than Democrats to pass amnesty. We have closet case at best leftists. And likely more than a couple GOP operatives thrown in.
If people want this mess ‘begun’ to be sorted out, then they have to stop supporting leftism in the ranks. On internet forums and in DC. But UNTIL there are elected people in DC that will listen and agree, it is a lie to spout ‘feet to the fire’ nonsense. Most of us not only fight those that try holding feet to fire, but right now, the pols in DC understand how empty a threat it is.
Why should they worry when no one will even fight back against their screaming minions online?
This is a matter of principle and priority. Principles do matter and we must do what we EFFECTIVELY can to forward conservatism. And until we rid ourselves of the enemy within that ties us up at every turn and blocks us from organizing against the GOP/Uniparty, we may as well all just sit down and shut up because we are not doing anything positive for the movement.
Yeah, I can see where that comes from.
Yup. Because then there is a chance that a portion will agree with you. Today it is just a system of party politics perpetuating more party politics. And that is exactly why the founders were not hot on political parties to begin with.
It just floors me how so many modern people are sooo much wiser than the people that created the actual country and government.
And people call ‘ME’ arrogant...
Go to hell, Marco. Do not pass Go.
Don’t you see they have to? In order to save the house of cards ponzi scheme both parties have created, they have to get these people on the tax rolls. It’s perpetual insansity, nobody has the guts to reverse it.
I’m old enough to remember when America had two political parties.
The political left wins because their rank and file and their elected reps are ideologically in accord with each other. We on the right are not. We're scattered from center left, to moderate middle, to center right, to far right.
The right wing base runs from center right to far right, while our elected reps (mostly) run from mushy middle to center left. This splintered state of the Republican party is why we continue to lose elections and the country to the degraded left.
The other side figured out the winning dynamics long ago. They forced their moderates and conservatives out of their party and demanded ideological cohesion among their troops. We haven't gotten there yet, but it's high time we did.
We need to throw out our moderates and liberals. Make 'em join the other side if they can't bear to support the fundamental American principles that define our side.
And what better place to start, than at the grass roots level of public forums like this one?
