There's a certain Je ne sais quoi about a guy holding a guitar.
Or so says a new study from France, which suggests that a man is perceived as more attractive to women if theres a guitar in his hands. The study's results are similar to the findings of a 2012 study from Israel.
France, Israel, Hoboken or Bumpass, Virginia it doesn't matter where the guitarist is from. The point is, male guitarists are generally viewed as promising mating material (as if we didn't all know that already)!

He was a hottie (:
LOLOLOL!!!! {^)
Yep — works for this gal, too!!!
Ohhh ... maaaaan!!! Congrats and God bless you both! I know quite a few (including several I’m related to) couples who were high school sweethearts who got married and have remained so for many decades. WONDERFUL!!!!!!
who gives a @#&!
"Use an Accordion, Go to Jail"
And my favorite, a jazz musician told me about this one --
Ban Drum Solos
Wow -- you 'n me both, Brother FReeper. I wanted to be a pretty feathers-n-flowers-in-her-hair Earth Mama, living as I did at the gateway of Big Sur in California, but ... it was kind of like a fish wanting to be a butterfly!! {^) I just couldn't embrace the ninny state of mind that being a real honest-to-god Earth Mama would have entailed!!! {^) I was just too Republican (that was back when being a Republican meant being a conservative).
As I've gotten older, though, I've come to love ol' Nuge in a lot of ways. God bless him!
Another joke: A man vacationing on an island is driven crazy by the constant sound of drums, but whenever he tries to ask the natives when it will stop, they look horrified and tell him, “Very bad when drumming stops.” Finally, he plucks up the courage to ask what happens when the drumming stops, and the response is, “Bass solo.”

Hmmm....works both ways, I think. One of the reasons my husband pursued me is because I play the guitar. Said he’d seen too many instances, just like yours, of girlfriends/wives making their men quit playing because of jealousy. Even went through it with one girlfriend himself, and he dumped her to play drums. Said he would NEVER give up playing, so he had to find a woman who played, also. Been working pretty great for 30+ years now. He plays bass now, and we have a little acoustic trio called Black Dog (NOT a Zeppelin thing) and play all around the Puget Sound.
When it's Marcus Miller taking the bass solo with a nice nasty funk bass, I'm INTO IT!!! I even like drum solos, God help me, and I love a good accordion. For the last few years I've been hooked on Mexican Ranchera music because there's so much really great accordion playing (plus it helps me improved my Spanish a bit). Never could get into listening to the same music at the age of 57 that I listened to 40 years ago, though I dress pretty much the same ... sad!!!!
“...I wanted to be a pretty feathers-n-flowers-in-her-hair Earth Mama...”
I can honestly say I N-E-V-E-R had an inclination to be an “Earth Mama” HAHAHA!!!
Your imagery is very funny, thanks! I needed a good chuckle today...
I switched from guitar to bass due to a personnel change in a band 12 years ago.
The band dating chart is spot on.
Interesting that Mick Mars is on the cover with this article...that’s “the clincher”...
ROTF!
I have power over fire!!
Well ... you're a guy, correct? So I should hope not!!!
Much better off being a hunky lead guitarist in a rock band!
It's just as well I couldn't be an early '70s Earth Mama anyway because most of them were vegetarians and drove VW bugs or Volvos. I preferred fast convertible sports cars and lots and lots of red MEAT. :^) Still do, for that matter.
“...girlfriends/wives making their men quit playing because of jealousy...”
Haha!!! Yeah, well, nobody can “make” you do anything - you either choose to comply, or you don’t.
For me, I stopped the band thing because it got old, real fast, staying out till 3am, breaking down equipment, setting it back up somewhere else, then having to get up for the job on Monday... playing weeknight gigs was tough too. One band I was in - we had a steady Wednesday night gig at a local place, and man, that was brutal on Thursday morning, getting up to be in work by 6:30am. Kids came along, fatherhood took over, and there ya go...
It’s easier when you’re 21 or 22... not so much at 53.
Now, girls who play guitar (and by PLAY it, I mean a girl who can SHRED the fingerboard with the best) I have always found to be compelling. I’ve seen a few of them in the club circuit over the years. It’s nice to watch; shows they had the same level of determination and devotion that I put into it, and I can appreciate it very much.
“...Even went through it with one girlfriend himself, and he dumped her to play drums...”
Precisely what I would have done!!! Haha!
I’ve also played bass and keyboards over the years. Sold most of my gear, but I still one bass and a couple of my guitars.
I still jam with some of my buddies occasionally. It’s a lot of enjoyment, and I don’t miss the grind...
Well... maybe occasionally I do...in a lot of ways, it was a much better time in my life. Less worries, less responsibilities, and less stress. All I had to worry about was me, and playing well, and making a good show for the audience.
I dunno. Hard to say.
HAHAHA! You should see the looks I get sometimes. I LOOK like that (granny glasses, long straight hair) and play guitar. People just assume I’m like that, will start talking with me at a gig, and when I start spouting conservative stuff, it’s VERY amusing to watch. Especially if I mention that I carry. HAHAHA! Good old Washington state!
“..Well ... you’re a guy, correct? ...”
The last time I checked, yes!!! Hahah!!!
“...I preferred fast convertible sports cars and lots and lots of red MEAT....”
You and me BOTH!
