The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

That colander planter is cute. I’m going to tell my neighbor about it. She has done that with teapots, and they’re really cute. I noticed she has a few hanging baskets on my ligustrum that is by her yard..
I see all this rain on doppler radar, and it all went right around me..I swear we’re cursed.
I sent this to the list I have for gardeners who post here. I did it to report on the “Deck Corn”, a hybrid made by Burpee.
In my inspection tour this morning of the plants on the deck, one of the corn plants has produced in the middle of one of the stalks about 15 round corn tassel looking things. They range between 5 to 6 inches in length. Likely, one of you knows the right name to call these.
Because they weren't there yesterday, they had to be wrapped up in that stalk and the stalk opened up to expose these. I don't know the next step the corn makes but one of you who grows corn could tell me. It's hard to believe I can grow ears of corn on my deck. I hope nothing happens to stop this from happening.
I have nine cucumber plants of two or three different kinds and they all have blossoms and I see cucumbers.
The four tomato plants of different types have blossoms and I see little green tomatoes on three of them.
rightly, we have 60% chance of rain today and 40% tonight and I think it's about to rain now (I hope). The humidity in the garden is 79%.
sockmonkey, still no blossoms on T squash but the fuzzy things are all up and down that squash plant. It's four feet plus tall. I have other T squash plants, planted after that first one so they are still small.
greeneyes, the potato plants have open blooms on them as of this morning.
I should have painted mine....darn! This one looks cute, mine looks industrial. blah!
We have a lot of company, those who stay for a day or so, those who drop in, and in Jun & Jul we’ll have 2 sets of 2
Aggie girls here studying ???, so I save all of my fruit
juices. I make punch from them, some are all one fruit juice, ie, pineapples juice, and sometimes it’s a mix of
juices. I use a lot of canned and jarred fruits in salads, plus frozen fruits. I even mix some juice into the mayo, with a shake or two of tabasco for the dressing.
They look better because they’ve been laying around in your
garden resting all through the winter.
Nothing better than that cheap white bread with onions,
cheese and mayo.
I’ve painted my black pots white, and my tires will be getting a coat of white too. I may even paint some flowers
or something on the pots.
Any action on the cucuzza front?
My three out of the six are okay. three still sitting there, and no action from the six I planted after the 72 hour soak. I may try one with the nail clipper trick.
I'm jealous..Mine are just tall and green. Hope you get some rain.
I just stuck the most recent two seeds in a cup with potting soil to germinate day before yesterday. I took a nail file and filed down the end slightly where it looks like the leaves emerge, after seeing one that my SIL has that has just started to ‘sprout’ - she did no prior soaking. Hers were planted probably a month before my first two. So ... I have 1 of the first two still in a cup & just planted the two more that soaked from Fri. a.m. to Tues p.m.
My Trombetta di Albanga squash went out to the garden yesterday. They have 5-6 leaves and were really getting ‘leggy’ - about 12 inches tall. They look good today (it’s 90 here) & as soon as they adjust, they should start growing like crazy. I don’t have enough trellis for them (just some woven wire fence) so they’ll have to go up, down, maybe up again. I don’t have any long lengths of woven wire or I’d make the 6-8 ft. trellis they are supposed to need. I’m excited to see how they turn out. :-)
That would heat up too much in the hot Texas sun.
We had about a 5 minute sprinkle from the storms. Thankful for that. Hoping I wouldn’t have to water today but will need to turn the sprinkler on in a few minutes.

Not a drop - it’s been cloudy all day and is now but no rain. Radar showed green stuff all around earlier today and it’s missed me.
rightly, here’s the forecast for this coming Monday night:

Vermont governor signed law requiring GMO food lableing. Too many links can’t be posted so go search. Reports are that it will cause a rise in food prices by $500+ a year for a family of four. Suuure, my aunt fanny, for this costing so much.
Oh yes there is; you forgot the sardines! Bacon will do, but a layer of sardines is perfection.
I won't revolt the thread by saying what my favorite cheese for that is. I think it comes from the German/Dutch side of my ancestry. ;-)

Have you tried ? Rachlech cheese melted over boiled, sliced
potatoes? It’s close to your fave cheese, but not as strong.
We’re getting some good rain right now, so Johnny it should
be in your area shortly.
